You could, I guess. I used a mag-mount when I first installed a CB in the rig but I found it a PITA. It scratched the hell out my paint and having it in the middle of the hood would be quite distracting. What makes you not want to mount at the rear of your Jeep?

The problem is that if you're taking your vehicle off-road then the hood is really not the best place for the antenna to be.
