have you added up what all these materials are going to weigh? its sounding pretty heavy to me.....
if possible i would go thinner materials but deeper cross sections - the ability to resist bending and flexing increases dramatically as you increase the distance from the centre line to the...
Might be pushing it to get to the alps in a day unless your 110 goes faster than most of the ones i've ever driven :-)
End of october you will be competing with UK school half term so make sure you book tunnel/ferry early
i'd be surprised if many roads or passes would be closed that early in...
OK, can't quote everyone but to answer some of the questions and points raised:
building a slide-on hardside camper to go on a Ford Ranger - similar dimensions to a Lance 865 but to fit the narrower tub and should come in lighter as a shell. I want to make the camper self sufficient so that...
bonding pipe direct to the panel i would worry that it could act as an insulator if there was no water circulating, and could hotspots actually damage the panel? Using Au as a heatsink should avoid this inherently. You could probably thread new pipe through the channels if it leaks over time...
Having read this thread regarding stick on PV panels vs mounting with a clearance
https://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/solar-panel-roof-adhension.207666/
and seeing the comments about temperatures and panel efficiency, i've been thinking about combining a PV panel with a way of...
FWIW i've just started a similar build to go on a new Ranger but i'm using a UK composite panel company to make the panels for me to get a decent finish. They are recommending and producing with 2mm fibreglass either side of a 30mm styrofoam RTM core and i'm pretty sure its all polyester resin...
i'm thinking exactly the same thing - although i may make up a lead and false battery connector for a 12v drill/driver so that I can run it off the camper battery rather than having to keep portable batteries charged. Also useful for drilling holes in hard ground for awning pegs and other ground...
spoke with another supplier today - he also recommended a 24mm trapzoidal/ACME thread with a 5mm pitch. He calculated I should be good upto 2000kg on a 900mm travel which is way more than I will need and that for me buckling on such a long travel is the limiting factor. He also reckoned that it...
i'm thinking of doing something similar with pultruded fibreglass profiles . I've been speaking with a UK jack maker about supplying just the screws to lift upto 400KG over 900mm travel and they supply a 24mm threaded rod that they say should be sufficient - for me the issue is more buckling...
if you can find someone with - or get a copy of - the Camps book there used to be some great free/cheap campsites on your route - Balgal beach north of Townsville and the waterfalls near Henrietta creek on the road from Innisfail up to the Atherton tablelands are definitely memorable. Paronella...
Love the new sunset feature - i'm seldom up early enough to worry about sunrise - and while i didn't initially think about the measures of how long dusk would last, it did prove useful tonight (13 degrees south, north east Brasil coast) to know how dark it would get so fast.
Excellent work...
not a medivac case, but when we were stuck in Guatemala not able to move past Nicaragua due to the political unrest, World Nomads were of no help whatsoever and left us high and dry. I changed to another UK insurer for the rest of my trip. Won't give WN any more of my money....
thanks - good to know how much movement to expect to judge the length of springs required. Tension springs would probably be easier, but i've not found anything on ebay UK that looks like it would be small enough to be neat yet strong enough to take the tension. The compression springs they sell...
In preparation for my camper build, I'm thinking of making my own tie downs - I like the happijac tie downs as a neat looking system but to get some shipped to the UK more than doubles the online price with shipping and import taxes, and I hate giving the government any more money than I have...
Sorry, I'm still not sure what the benefit of valves is over just holes that allow the air inside to expand and contract. Do you mean something like a schraeder tyre valve? Personally I would just have something to hold the desiccant over the holes on the outside of the spacer so it can easily...
Do you need to keep them sealed? i would be more inclined to allow the pressure to equalise and build in a way to hold some desiccated silica gel in the breather hole to remove any moisture that could cause condensation.
Another general issue with pultruded FRP angles for this type of use, or especially if you want to put a vertical load on it, is that most of the fibres and therefore strength runs along the length of the section as it is pulled through the mould to make it. Personally I would make some out of...
