Been a bit since I worked on the sequoia, but I’m always searching the classifieds for deals, and I found one last week. I got a move embark bumper with winch plate for half price and started welding it up at my friends house the other day.
I also have a question for you more knowledgeable adventurers. I’m having a tough time deciding on what to use for the skin on this thing, I’m thinking aluminum or fiberglass but I’m open to suggestions. I will be insulating it with foam board.
also I’m curious about finishing doors and edges...
Alright, been a few weeks since I’ve worked on the trailer, but I was able to get the frame welded up and square, and now I’m installing the timbren suspension today. I’ll finish the suspension tomorrow. Here is the pic of the frame now. More tomorrow. As to my earlier question of the wheel...
that makes sense. I did notice when reviewing trailer designs that the m416 is set back a bit. I did read a manual on trailer building though and it said to have the wheels 70% back from the tip of the tongue. On a 4x6 trailer with a 4ft tongue that puts it squarely in the middle of the box. But...
yeah, that is one way to install, but it lowers ground clearance and adds a snag point cause it hangs lower than the frame,so I would really like to avoid using it. The other way Timbren mentions is by fabricating a plate that reinforces the frame at the attachment point. I would rather do this...
Alright, got all the steel cleaned up and ready to start tacking together, but first I thought I’d post the first problem I’m running into; much of the steel I’m using is stuff I had around or picked up off the classifieds, so the trailer’s dimensions have very little room for change. Long story...
So, I just started building a tent trailer for my family and me to do some extended trips in remote areas. It probably won't be anything too out of the ordinary. we are avid rock climbers and surfers with two small kids, so because some of the places we like to go are very difficult to get to...
Yea, I’m not sold on that front door, it may turn out to be a side door, or two side front doors. It’s going to be interesting though with a low suspension height trailer on 35’s. I think the wheels and/or fenders may make side doors difficult. But we’ll see. I ordered the steel and pick it up...
Thank you high-and-dry, that is very helpful. the 3/16" channel frame is being cannibalized from an old ATV trailer I had. it is definitely heavier than I would have wanted, but only being a 4x1.5" c channel I think it shouldn't be too heavy. also thinking about cutting the tongue of the trailer...
Hey all, just wanted to post a couple of preliminary pictures of a rough CAD design of a trailer I’m going to be building over the next few months. I am sourcing materials right now and already have the frame for the trailer which is 3/16” thick 4” c channel. The main question I have is if I can...

I would do 2” spacers and an aggressive pinch weld smash and cut first. I doubt the standard 1.25” would be enough. The main problem with those spacer is you’re going to have to buy longer lug studs. Get IS 300 lug bolts and cut them to the right length. This will be an all day project, but...
Thank you. I used 06 tundra seats. the leather and plastics were toast on the sequoia limited seats, so I pulled some manual seats out of a tundra. I swapped out the wiring harnesses to maintain heated seats and spliced the wires for the airbag sensor and seatbelt sensors. i like the minimalism...
Good. I’ve done three trips on them; mostly rocks and sand. One trip was over a snowy pass a couple weeks ago, and they have done very well so far in all. Their road manners are great too. I haven’t had them in mud yet though.
Thanks man.
They feel good right now. The truck seems to be in a better torque range generally, especially on the highway. but they’re still in the break-in period so I haven’t been able to really get on it or tow with it, so I’ll report back when I can test it properly.
Hi everyone, my name is Christo, and I wanted to introduce myself and my current build. I’m in SLC UT and have been building a 2003 sequoia limited with 250k miles that I bought in October of ‘19. I originally wanted a land cruiser, but this turned out to be the best option for me. Since the...
