    Vintage Military Tires...

Turns out they have a tubeless version that is effectively a 30/9/15...and is too wide. I'll check out the 16s, but I think they get wider as they get taller... The other reason I'm looking at these vintage tires is that all the modern sizes around 30" are too dang wide for both the running...

AEV vs RK VS OME 2-2.5" Springs for Wildly Varying Jeep Weight

OK...here is my dilemma. My Jeep JKU Rubi overall weight varies dramatically. The Mopar 2" lift springs are too damned soft/not cutting it when loaded for work/camping. So which set? Considering - AEV 2.5 springs (progressive or dual rate), - RK TripleRate Springs - OME Springs - true linear...

    Vintage Military Tires...

Brakes are on the eventual list...given the weight of this thing and having had full loaded w/water/gear before, at 700-800# complete, I barely know it is there. I need to get rid of the slipper springs before heading down that path. (I'm a huge proponent of brakes BTW...all my other trailers...

    Vintage Military Tires...

For reference, this thing is 40x60 box, 40" tall...800# would be loaded.

    Vintage Military Tires...

Looking at running some vintage military tires on my small off road trailer behind my jeep. However, I am concerned about balance, shock absorbtion (lack of), and wandering that may occur with bias ply tires. The trailer currently has a crap 225/75/15 passenger radial and I'd like to go taller...

Single band vs dual band value

3 minute timer is for continuous transmission...and is very common even for big repeaters. It is also a nice failsafe in case your HT gets 'stuck' on in a backpack or whatever (it happened to me once). It is really not that big of an issue.

    Pronghorn rear bumper is here!!!!!

I wish these guys the best...but... I remember them at an Expo 4+(?) Yrs ago debuting their bumper and talking about all the other JK stuff that was going to come out (bumpers, sides, carriers, etc) and how things could get moved around. At the glacial pace they've released products, I'm glad I...

    Captain Texas Anvil JKU build

Pullingthe factory sub was one of my earliest mods. Ran one without for several years ... Then I put a self-powered Kicker sub under the driver seat - wired it off the front speakers in the driver footwell. I also installed an active comp/equalizer device to undo some of the stupid factory EQ...

    Yaesu/Kenwood Radios, Antenna/Antenna Location Comparison

One thing I will have to test next time out is a 5/8 2m antenna to see the difference between the 1/2 wave and 5/8. The 5/8 would have to be mag mount in the center of the hood for a proper ground plane, but it would be a comparison nonetheless. The Husles co-linear 5/8 over 1/4 was the clear...

    Yaesu/Kenwood Radios, Antenna/Antenna Location Comparison

@DaveInDenver Awesome post...thx. I'm still digesting it... What do you think of 0.64 wavelength antennas? There are no vertical/omni's available that I know of that are tuned for that wavelength at 2M (or any other band). I read an article about them a year or so ago...the benefits seemed...

    JK Battery?

We all were ... until people starting charging money for a badge and a number so you could be 'bound' for the outdoors...via a car to go camping & hiking ....and car camping became over landing ... and now goods & services carry the same tax as marriages & marine/boats. Just say overland or...

    JK Battery?

Killing a 63Ah battery in a week...that implies a 150-300mA draw...should be relatively easy to find. Can one of you guys get a clamp-on meter and start looking for the parasitic (start pulling fuses until the draw disappears)...I've come across a few sPODs that developed a parasitic draw...

    Yaesu/Kenwood Radios, Antenna/Antenna Location Comparison

The Hustlers are a very inexpensive rugged antenna with a very solid reputation...and if this didn't work, a counterpoise kit is cheap so I could convert it for base station useage at the house...there are also several have used the 144 for HF use - which seemed interesting. You're talking...

    Yaesu/Kenwood Radios, Antenna/Antenna Location Comparison

@DaveInDenver - You said something interesting: Can you explain this a bit? I was under the impression that ERP & gain were positively proportional - but does your comment suggests interplay of something else? Is the radiation angle of the 1/4 wave vs 1/2 wave the true issue? The 1/2wave...

    JK Battery?

In general, I am in favor of B2DC converters. The main beef I have with most of them is their inability to change the charging profiles, alter tail current/aborb times (as when to end absorb and head to float), change float current/bulk current thresholds (when running loads). I never said...

    Yaesu/Kenwood Radios, Antenna/Antenna Location Comparison

The V71a does not have APRS - I use mobilink, a small APRS device connected via Bluetooth to APRSDroid....it works great. Does everything I need it it too. The mobilink is connected to the V71a via a data cable into the back of the radio and uses TNC. The issue seems to be with the APRS in the...
