Same Setup, Different Vehicle, Reduced Range

Firstly, I want to say I have not checked SWR on the system currently or on my last vehicle. So that out of the way, I have a Cobra 19 DX III, 18' coax, and a 4' Firestick (no tunable tip). I previously had it on my Discovery II. On the Discovery, I drilled holes through the spare tire...

Deciding between Tacoma, 4Runner or even FJ

Measurements (not exact because these aren't squares) Give or take an inch. Also the pictures are taken at the same focal length and then I cropped them to make the box the same size so you can see the difference. FJ Door Opening: 35"Hx42"W Cargo Floor: 42"Wx37"D Above Wheel Tubs...

Deciding between Tacoma, 4Runner or even FJ

I'll get you some measurements of both tonight when the wife is home and take a picture with a box or something in both to give you an idea of scale.

    Midland 75-822 Opinions and Question

I switched vehicles and am now looking at changing CBs. The reason is I can't bring myself to cut a new interior and don't want a permanent mount solution. I already made an external mount and have a 4' firestick to go with it when used in vehicle. I really like that I can remove this when...

Deciding between Tacoma, 4Runner or even FJ

That's exactly what I was trying to say!

Deciding between Tacoma, 4Runner or even FJ

I have not owned a Tacoma so I can't speak for those. But we have a 2011 4Runner SR5 4x4 with leather, sunroof, bluetooth, heated seats, running boards, hitch, a nice front windshield defroster, etc (I list these so you know what in ours for the comparison). It's basically a run of the mill 4...

    Homemade Roofracks.

Randy, Your rack looks to be coming along nicely! The rack really isn't very loud at all unless I open the sunroof or I'm driving freeway speeds into 20mph winds. I don't know if the air scoop has anything to do with that or not. The biggest issue with the lights was the glare on the...

    Airing Down Tires 101

I've read the theory that exactly mirros what that article what that confirms, but it's one thing to read it and another to actually see the difference.

    Homemade Roofracks.

Thanks for the compliments. It isn't perfect by a long shot but I think it looks alright and it'll carry a decent amount. My buddy and I can stand in the front basket and that's 400lbs and it seemed to do fine. I really just wanted the lights and to possibly add an RTT down the road. I...

    Homemade Roofracks.

It's only been on for a week or two so I can't attest for it's longevity yet. I have stood on it a few times and it doesn't seem to really flex much. I think the key is using the 1" conduit. The OD is around 1-1/8 and it's close to 16g. I don't believe 3/4" would be very sturdy for a larger...

    Homemade Roofracks.

Here's my first roof rack I've ever had and attempt at making one. Made it out of 1" conduit and the basket bottom is 3/4" conduit. Just bent it up with a hand bender and welded it using a Mig 110.

Kiamichi Trail (K-Trail) Adventure: The good, the bad, and the ????

Would a stock 02 Disco w/out CDL be able to make this voyage with just tires? Picking one up here in a day or two and this trail has been on my list of want-to-do's for about a year. The vid above makes me think not so much. Is this trail maintained at all during the spring/summer months?
