Remember that Ford uses an independent twin I-Beam coil spring setup in the stock front end when they calculate (and "to err on the side of caution") come up with that number. A 4x4 conversion is going to use a solid front axle. Set up properly (including “E” rated tires) you should have no...

Yep, that’s why Sportsmobile only uses aluminum bumpers (Aluminess Brand). The conversion adds weight but it also adds to the front axle GAWR. You can look at all the 4x4 Van sites on the internet and find conversion vans slightly to massively over the GVWR all day long. :smiley_drive:

Remember to think about the weather, ANY pop-up or lift-up top has drawbacks in cold or heavy rain type weather. Just one example may be the canvas is icy or wet from a nighttime storm (and cold) sometimes the top will not fold back in properly and sometimes the wet drips inside the van after...

I thought I recognized those rims. An old friend of mine had one of those conversion vans from the 90’s and the rims where part of the kit. That explains why I looked through all my old Ford literature and could not find them installed on any vans. Thanks for the pic Chris! :coffee:

Yep, all Ford vans in those years came with an open rear dif for better mileage and because it’s cheaper. Just like most older 2WD pickup trucks it’s really only one wheel drive, you can sit and spin one wheel on flat ground much less a grade. First step is to put some kind of a locker in the...

New vehicle for playing. Looking for input about my possibilities.

Did you ever look at a Ford van 4x4 conversion? You don’t really need a full camper van interior, you could keep the stock removable seats. :smiley_drive:

Hey Chris, A few years back I made an end table out of motorcycle engine for a friend of mine ….. I made it a “Cutaway” that you can turn over with a handle on the end of the crankshaft and see most of the parts move. I almost kept it for myself!

Oh, sorry, I didn't explain. Back in those days SMB used bolts on the T/F tank straps that would snap the heads off after a while. They have a bulletin about changing the bolts out to 7/16 -14 TPI . I’ll look around to see if I can find my copy of it. :smiley_drive:
