Temps will typically drop into the mid-20's overnight, so nothing too extreme, but it'll be nice to preserve propane with some extra floor insulation. (I hope the floor won't get so danged cold, too, as I hate wearing shoes inside!)
Heh, I forgot about that faucet, but yes, I have one on my...
Update from a 2018 HQ15 owner: I've decided to take the plunge and bring my camper to RVs of America in mid-August to have them do their winter insulation package (see the details at https://www.rvsofamerica.com/black-series-modifications/). When I bought my camper there was no guidance on how...
Nice—that's on my to-do list as well. I've got to finish re-wiring the battery system first, though, and at my pace I might not need the heater by the time I'm done. :)
Looks like you've done some other alterations in the cabinet above as well. It's fun to see what other folks come up with!
Now I'm frequently accused of being very "top shelf" in my tastes, but even I choke a bit on a $400 roll of tape! As much as I love my HQ15 it ain't a space shuttle. I'm thinking some EternaBond might be more reasonable...
@hopp150 Yeah, that controller's not my favorite piece of kit. :) It's a PWM controller that produces a lot of RFI, and it isn't adjustable for different battery chemistries, but it generally works OK. Since I'm upgrading to LiFePO4 I'm replacing it with the DIY Solar 4 U "Sól" charge...
Congrats on your purchase, @hopp150 ! I'm staying stock with my tires, and haven't played with the Anderson plug yet. (Need bigger crimpers if I want to build cables that'll work with that size plug!) That was probably my post about draining batteries—I'm guessing I left the fridge on, but I'm...
We were washing and waxing our HQ15 last weekend and discovered some tape over the front roof seam has completely deteriorated. Is this tape from the factory (anyone else have taped roof seams), or was this added by the dealer? We want to replace it if necessary before the winter snows come. My...
Wow, @HQ15fan , glad you gave it a try and shared your results! @PSea and I are thinking along the same lines. I want to install some amateur radio equipment, too, so I might end up installing some conduit inside so that I can route some of that wiring around to where I want it as well.
On our HQ15 the thermostat for the heater is right above the compartment where the heater is installed. We've discovered that the heater will warm the wall enough at night that the heater won't run even when the interior is pretty cold. We're looking at relocating the thermostat further down the...
Whoops! Seems like I'm not getting notifications when new posts are made to this thread. Sorry for not checking in for a while.
It could have been the fridge. I don't think I left it on, but at this point who knows? I think the lesson here is to turn off the main power switch if you're not...
We came home from three months overseas and heard the smoke alarm in our HQ15 beeping. Turns out the main batteries were completely flat. Not sure how that happened as it was parked in the sun the entire time and I don't believe I left anything running. My dealer suggested that the inverter...
I'm headed down to Pomona this weekend to check them out in person. I'm specifically looking at the HQ15, but let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll see if I can get answers for ya'.
Thanks for the pointers!
I'd forgotten about Bruder; when I first looked at them I thought they were US$100K, but it looks like they're closer to US$70K?
I hadn't heard of Kimberley before. Unfortunately, their website just asks for a login at the moment, but I'll scout around the 'net and see...
Hi all,
I've been searching for a while for hard-sided adventure trailers that are available in the US, but I'm not having a lot of luck finding ones that meet my criteria. I really like several of the "caravan" designs out of Australia (especially the Lotus Caravans), but many of those...
I've put about 14K miles on them now. I was worried how well they'd do over the hot summer here in Reno; they've got somewhere around 11-12/32" left right now (new they come with 16/32"), so roughly I'm using about 1/32" every 3K miles. I replace tires when they get down to 4/32" (or 5/32" if...
Yep, still quite happy with mine. They've gotten me up to the ski slopes without any drama, even when others have been challenged. The only time they've slipped for me was when there was a bunch of ice in town. My F-250 steered and braked just fine, but getting going from a stop was a slow...
