I have a Dan Grec model that will be posted with pictures this weekend. A little over a year old and in great condition. Keep your eyes open.

The opening in my J30 is pretty much the same as Dan’s and yes the price was higher. It’s quite a bit more work for the crew in Chula Vista and I’ve read the option isn’t available while developing the top for the JL.

My J30 has the extended opening and while I planned for the dogs to sleep down below, it took my Border Collie about 2 seconds to figure how get up top. She now sleeps by my feet while my Golden Retriever has more room below.

On my 2012 we only cut a few welds, removed the bolt and ground the remaining weld smooth. Not too much of a problem. The JL crossbar is thoroughly welded. I don’t remember any bolts. My guess is an open floor plan Ursa Minor will require a custom roll bar like Dan Grec’s.

I looked at the JL at the LA Auto Show. It looked like a lot more work to take out the rear cross member. On a different topic, I installed a Goose Gear floor plate system with side cubbies. The side cubbies make a convenient step up into the open floor plan bunk.
