Something to consider…wildfires are crazy in BC and the NWT. We chilled in Dawson City to let the rain stop and, apparently, put out the fires near the Dempster.
I am in Dawson City, YT. About 2200 miles so far. Hitting the Dempster tomorrow. Zero issues. The Alaska highway is great, the Klondike has maybe 50 miles in gravel being fixed.
I depart in two weeks. A few more things to sort out but it’s base lined fairly well. Note to self… I swapped out the fossilized spare for a new K02. Holy crap tire prices have gone up!
One thing to ponder is tire pressure. Load "rated" tires can take rather higher pressures but you really don't want to run them at maximums. Look at the manufacturer's recommended tire pressure and try that pressure out as your baseline. Then bang in more air if you wish and try that. I have a...
Two votes for the Tundra. Aside from the Tundra you will find that Toyota doesn’t really offer great towing rigs. I recently picked up a V8 4Runner to tow an A-liner type trailer. Wow…what an upgrade from my V6 4Runner! Might I suggest you start with torque specs and look for something that...
I can manage being broke down and being out of sorts for a couple of weeks. Not desirable obviously. Hence the ask on what preventative steps to take. New plugs, etc are on the list. The ferry ride knocks off a chunk of driving so that helps. I am rolling on LT KO2’s with a C rating. I run E...
Tuk is the goal. Last time I saw the Arctic Ocean it was in an attack submarine and involved a festival of fun at the North Pole. Six times I have been there. Much rather drive this time.
I think I will hit the 4Runner with some preventative maintenance where parts and garages are handy. in...
Ok…in 2023 I aim to drive to the Arctic Circle/Arctic Ocean in a 2004 V8 4Runner with 160K miles. Am I nuts? Part of it will be on a ferry from Bellingham to Ketchikan. The rest will be driving. Round trip looks to be 6,000 miles. The timing belt has been replaced with the water pump and...
The 4.0 liter wasn’t a replacement for the V8 since they offered both in the 4th gens. It was a choice and sadly Toyota stopped offering the choice so the 5th gens got just the 4.0 liter. The 4.0 liter replaces the 3.4 liter. Both the 3.4 and 4.0 are fine motors but neither are well suited to...
