I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

Yes the seal is closed cell, but I think I just saturated the canvas beyond it's waterproofing abilities and it seeped in. It could've also seeped in along the exposed thread on the rear. My thread for the velcro went a little low. I will have to treat it like the rest of the threads.

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

I am going to be redoing the canvas and all the subsequent trim at some point in the next year. I have learned how to make drip edge (in theory) so I will make a drip edge and install it then. The base molding didn't have enough give to let me shut the roof. Hindsight being what it is I could've...

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

As some people have speculated and I secretly thought. Not having a drip edge has bit me in the ass. Driving home on the interstate through non-stop rain caused the rear seam to soak through and subsequently leak into the camper. For now i am going to put tape over the seams if I know it is...

As promised pictures of the internal setup to fix the slack in the canvas material.

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

One of the issues I stumbled upon was that my canvas is not tight enough to hold the roof up on the same vertical plane front to rear as the walls. I did come up with a solution that I will attach pictures later (I forgot to take them). I attached eyebolts in each corner then ran high strength...

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

I finally got my back up camera reinstalled. I used CBIs bumper bracket and attached it to the bottom of my camper. Lower than original, but it works just the same. I might bend the bracket slightly.

It's LLPT double sided acrylic tape. Should be able to google that or go straight to amazon. I think i went through 250' of 1" and 100' of 2" Also it was either Coast Aluminum or Cascadia Metals in Kent that i got my panels from. I had to call them to verify their website wasn't great.

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

This is the tape i used. I used 1" to attach the panels and 2" for the corners. As for the ACM panels i don't remember where i got them exactly. It was somewhere in Kent. The first night out there was a huge amount of condensation on the roof, but no where else. The next time i took it out i...

I think FWC has a slightly bowed in the middle roof, but i'm not entirely sure.

That's not a bad idea. Right now i have 3/8" seal on top and 1/8" seal on bottom. I could change out the lower one to the 3/8".

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

One issue I am having which kind of sucks is that my roof is completely flat and then it has a 1/8" trim piece around all edges. I didn't even think of this being an issue until someone mentioned it. So for now while my truck is parked i have put it up on some RV levelers. Not sure I can really...

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

While building this I had a lot of trepidations about whether this would work out or not. I was worried if it would leak (even though I basically went overkill on waterproofing) and I was especially afraid of what would happen once the final seem of the canvas was sew up. Well I am happy to...

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

With all the work done to make this thing usable I headed out to the mountains to give her a good shake down and I mean that. This road is about as bumpy as they come for the full 35 miles I was on the trail. The camper worked out great though and i'm excited to get to use it.

It is finally...I won't say done because there are still many things to do, but it is usable! I sewed up the final seam with a Speedy Stitcher. If you've never used one they are anything but speedy. It took my buddy and I 3 hours to sew 32". The trim was installed and the door glued and...

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

I finally have the door fitted. I will say that I was worried about messing up the corner radius cuts and making them too big. Luckily i was careful and used a file for the fine tune adjustments of the radius cut. The door is amazing and I absolutely love it. Next step is to complete the trim...

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

No apologies needed. I went with 3/8" rubber seal and am compressing about 1/8" and that still allows me to rock the truck while pushing on the camper. Once those are snugged I have a plate that bolts the front wall of the camper to the front bedrail and the rear wall is bolted into the bed...
