Pretty decent deal, glad that it's not absurdly overpriced, as the 7.3L vans tend to be... that being said, the no rust comment is a little misleading... definitely appears to have the typical east coast underbody rust based on the brief look underneath in your video.
I'm always somewhat surprised to see that things like that have such an immediate hit on MPG... with my e250, I've never really been able to tell a difference driving-wise with a roof box/other things on the roof vs. without. But the numbers don't lie.
you have the link for it? i don't have a lot of experience w/ letgo, but it seems to be somewhat similar to offferup.... can be slightly weirder/sketchier than craigslist.
Man.... this is asking for somebody to follow down the path of your build. Seems like a pretty solid deal. Only downsides I see are roll-up (instead of barn door) rear and v8 instead of v10? Neither of those are deal breakers though.
This is a helpful thread - financing has been a question I've considered lately... nearing that decision point of, "do i pay $700-$1200/month for rent or go full time and put half of that towards a car payment." Buying new is probably the easiest option for financing... but there's so many more...
2012 F450 Diesel Box Truck - 121k miles, v8 diesel engine. Fleet maintained. $27k. No affiliation this at all, just happened to find it in my nightly search. Definitely on the larger side, and I have no knowledge of the quality of these newer diesel engines (other than the notorious 6.0), but it...
Gotcha - that's sweet. How do the aluminum channel pieces come together? Are they welded at the corners or just attached to the wood and meet at the seems?
you have any additional close-up photos of your third setup (vertically mounted to fork mount)? That's exactly what I'm planning on doing on my van and I'm just trying to iron out the details of how to best do it. Is your bike thru axel or QR? That's the only thing still sketching me out is that...
Sweet - came out good. It looks like the panels don't cover the entirety of the box so the interior isn't water-tight? What do you plan on storing inside of them? Or maybe I'm looking at it wrong and the boards fit inside of the boxes?
Are you planning for the plywood/epoxy boxes to be DIY roof boxes? I've toyed with that exact idea.... but never actually made it happen. Would be interested to see how it turns out if that's what you're thinking.
Biggest difference for me is the length - the truck bases are a solid 1-2ft longer than the van bases just based on the length of the hood (engine placement). What that means depends on your intended use... but worth considering when thinking about parking & maneuverability in both urban and...
