Ambulance recovery. Bought without any details and then road trip across the country.

That's a hard enough drive to think about doing ONCE, let alone three times. My congratulations to you for surviving the journey!

Buying & Building a Medium Ambulance into an RV – The FAM-BULANCE

Today was a good day to chase some simple headaches, so I decided to check out my right side turn signals. The left worked fine, but the right tended to show a very dim telltale on the instrument cluster, so I walked in front to see if it was the telltale, or something else. It was something...

Ambulance recovery. Bought without any details and then road trip across the country.

When I was driving my ambulance back to MN from Philadelphia, my son rode along and helped with the driving. After he had been wheeling along for a few hours, he grumbled that "this thing really needs cruise control!" I told him that it had cruise, but that the buttons were on the dash and not...

Stan Laurel once told Oliver Hardy "Gosh, I'm dumb today." We all have dumb moments. That's life.

You may be affecting the "Balance of nature..." Medium ambulances have always been native to the east coast, and it looks like you're trying to relocate an entire herd to the Arizona area, one by one. Best of luck on your trip Ciao!

Regarding your AC problem - the system may be low on refrigerant. A very cold AC can happen when the system is low and the evaporator pressure drops. Here's the schematic FYI: Since the cruise control system is part of the truck's ECM, the ECM may have been reprogrammed. It's possible a wire...

Tecniq is starting to show up as standard by some of the ambulance manufacturers, and they also are becoming more common on fire equipment. In fact, my Tecniq ceiling lights came from an ambulance manufacturer.

Ambulance recovery. Bought without any details and then road trip across the country.

The batteries may come back, but being totally flattened while the rig was parked pretty well destroyed the batteries. The Freightliner cab-mounted battery switch doesn't disconnect everything, but a battery switch in the negative lead will even kill off the parasitic loads. MNtal did that with...

By the way - if you decide down the road that you want to look at some high quality LED lights for interior/exterior lighting, consider Tecniq lights. They're made in Michigan, and come with an excellent warranty. I can get you both list pricing, and expected cost pricing, and if there's enough...

Farther down the road (probably a LOT farther), if you remove the cab headlining, could you please grab some photos of the removal, the roof, and how the light bar is fastened to the roof. I'm part of an emergency vehicle upfitter's group, and there's a steady discussion on how to fasten a light...

out with the old in with the new

I bought one last year, and it does an excellent job of replacing my old 40# 1" rattle gun. I added a 1" 8 point x 1/2" drive socket to the box so I can use a standard ratchet wrench in place of the crank handle. I haven't tried yet, but with a 66:1 ratio, I should be able to use a torque wrench...

Buying & Building a Medium Ambulance into an RV – The FAM-BULANCE

Yes. One pass through the jaws will read directly, two passes will read twice the actual current, 10 passes will read 10 times the actual, etc. Try it with one pass, then try it with 2 passes to check your procedure, then go for 5 or 10 passes.

Thinking about it a bit, and you should be able to use the two condenser fans you picked up on EBAY as a load. The fans have a combined rated current of 17 amps and will give your IOTA a little load so you can then measure the input current. Running the math, a 17 amp load should result in a 120...

You should be able to. Also, you won't see peak current unless you can load it down to 75 amps. Pat, I think I have an older analog clamp on ammeter in my collection. If I do, and if I can find it, would you like to borrow it to see what your current actually is?

Buying & Building a Medium Ambulance into an RV – The FAM-BULANCE

As you know, receptacle voltages in a campground or RV park can drop very low at times, which is why IOTA rates their chargers at supply voltages as low as 108 volts. The input wattage depends on amps and volts, and low voltage increases the amps. They also rate their output at line frequencies...

Air conditioner power thoughts I've been doing some more thinking and planning for the modified Hoseline stand-by air conditioner I'm going to install. Hoseline sets the installation up on a 30 amp RV power inlet, and I'm wondering if it will live on a 20 amp circuit. I started by determining...

Ambulance Camper/ Expedition Rig Conversion FAQ

The biggies in ambulances are Horton, Braun, and Wheeled Coach - Excellance is one of the smaller builders, but they have a solid reputation for building a good ambulance. Since you probably aren't going to use the ambulance as an ambulance, the more important question is the vehicle chassis...

Ambulance Camper/ Expedition Rig Conversion FAQ

It sounds like you may have lucked out and found a real gem. First of all, when you look at the vehicle, bring along a friend who can serve as your "dose of reality". You can get wound up in the vehicle and not see something that your friend might see. Obviously, look at the engine, see how...
