I was relieved to see that the Sika rapid response unit are at hand in case any of the multitude of panels that I have glued with Sikaflex 221 come loose.
We're back on the Road again and have crossed into Mexico. The brakes seem to be repaired as the problem has not reoccurred.

We've just spent a couple of days at about 9,000 feet in Mexico in our motorhome and had no problems with either of our heating systems.
I have a Webasto Thermo Top 50 which heats water through a Quick BX25 calorifier, and gives a little space heating through 3 small radiators. It has no...
Hi Teflon,
thanks for taking the time to write such a comprehensive post. We've had the brake chamber replaced now by a heavy truck garage in Austin so I hope that the problem is sorted. The info you gave will no doubt come in use and its reassuring to know that bus garages may have more...
Hi Mike,
yes, American Equipment fitted a new air chamber on the problem side of the back axle and replaced the brake pads which were toasted.
We're now in San Antonio for the rodeo and so far the problem has not reoccurred. I hope that's the end of this particular issue. From the sounds of...
Hi Iain,
Awesome work as always.
I had an almost identical problem with the brass connectors that I used on the central heating system in my truck. I use a Webasto Thermotop C/E system and have mostly used 19mm rubber hose to distribute the coolant. All of the radiators that I have used need a...
Hi Ian,
thanks for the suggestion. I'll probably take your advice on this issue as I have no experience of crossing into Mexico and first hand experience is always the best.
We planned to be in or near Mexico by now but out parking brake problem reoccurred so we've been delayed. I drove back...
Hi, great to meet you in McKinney, sorry we didn't get to say goodbye, we were out for a walk when you guys left. The rig is awesome, amazing what you've fitted onto a disco chassis.
Safe travels.
I'll be in touch when we get to Colorado later in the year,
Nick and Naomi
For comparison, I'm getting about 9 mpg (US) in a 2003 Mercedes 1823 weighing about 14 tonnes. It also has the OM906LA engine, although it has no adblue as it is Euro III
Hi Charlie,
Thanks for your help, I have a WIS/EPC/STAR computer with me but thanks for the offer.
The problem reoccurred in Kerrville on another cold day and I had a chance to investigate more thoroughly.
When the parking brake valve in the cab was released, the parking brake light...
Hi Ian, I have no experience of Ridgon themselves but the tread pattern is extremely similar to the bandag retreads that I use on the drive axle on my truck. They've served me well so far and give good traction on wet ground. I'm not doing any serious offroading but when the surface is bad...
Sorry for not updating as regularly as I should, but you can catch up on recent progress on the blog, here is the most recent post:

I've had a brake calliper sticking on one side of the rear axle, and lost air pressure when the main...
Hi all,
I'm still driving around the south east of the US and I was hoping someone could recommend a place to get the brakes on my Mercedes 1823 looked at in Texas, preferably near Austin or San Antonio.
In the south of Florida I had a calliper fail to release on one side of the rear axle...
Sorry Tony, just noticed it. I was actually in Savannah yesterday with a rental car. I think we'll stay around the golden isles today but I'll call tomorrow, I don't want to disturb your families Christmas.
Nick
Thanks Iain, most of the outstanding items weren't essential anyway. For example I didn't get to fit a television (we just watch films on the laptop instead), and I didn't get to add any comforts to the cab.
Thanks Joe, Baltimore and Halifax were both marginally cheaper than Brunswick but I...
After a busy few weeks we're now in Brunswick, GA, waiting for the truck to arrive by boat

I'll try to do a few retrospective blog posts about some of the work I did to the truck before we left the UK...
At last I have somewhere to mount the spare tyre. The carrier goes up and down with the tail lift, and can easily be swung pout of the way to use the platform or access the boot/garage space. It si the same concept used on small 4x4s like land drovers, but with a 150kg mounted spare, the...
