small update......
i have removed the front ARB winchbar i had on which i have sold, thought id post some pics of the hilux "frontless" in preparation for a custom tube winchbar-
I tied the spotlights to the grille just to get an idea of the position the spotlights will be in when all is done...
Thanks for your comments and feedback...I think after further investigation I may try and make something myself similar to the Thule Ute Racks at the link below -

Adjustable height racks for my bed area.....it will allow me to mount a luggage rack on them...
Guys,
Ive seen a couple of custom roof racks where the owners have mounted the roof rack through the actual roof.......
One is here on the expo Jeep -
And the other is on Scott Brady's tacoma, thou as much as I searched I couldnt find the pics......maybe someone can help here.
I was...
These little fourbies are awesome.....live front axle too and coils all around.....some people that modify them here in Australia fit the bigger 1.6 engine from the auzuki vitara into them aswell as hilux diffs front and rear for more strength, gearing options and wider track.
I honestly do not understand the issue with these new diesels and the US?
The new diesels are way more efficient and cleaner than almost all petrol engined vehicles so I cant see how they can be such an emmissions issue.
The new generation Prado diesel for example gets 8.5 litres per 100...
Great work mate....always good to read up what you do with your truck as future inspiration and ideas .
Im suprised no ones made or sold the flip pack in Australia for the hilux's given how popular the trucks are here and how large our country is to tour and explore, this would be great...
Over here there is no real "off the shelf" alternative to the ARB. The ARB is good for what it is but I want more....more approach angle being the most important thing...Ive been hung up a couple of times on the front ARB bar because they hang out so far forward of the vehicle. Plus they are...
Guys,
I dont update my build often....only as often as money allows unfortunately........since I last updated I helped a friend develope a comprehensive bodylift kit for the current shape hilux....2" kit with steering shaft extension and all required brackets...so I had planned to do that...
Guys,
I haven't seen anybody put a post up on this so I thought Id put it up here for discussion....
The swamper m16 looks to be a good tyre for those who may want something more aggressive in tread pattern than the usual thats out there and the other good point is that they have a range of...
Mate,
Just did some more searching and I think you are right....nowhere in those hilux builds did I see them mention that they fliped the 80series diff over, so I assumed that that was the way they came out.
Did a search on the toyota parts program and saw on there that they are in fact on the...
Heres a couple pics of new Hilux's with 80 series landcruiser front diff conversions showing the diff centre of the 80 series diffs as being on the left hand side of the vehicle -
Another one -
And one more.....
All used an 80 series front differential.
A tonne of potential upgrades....lets start with a Right Hand Drive Version.....for the rest iof the world to enjoy, and then put the Prado D4D into it.
I'd be sold on that! :victory:
Sorry, your incorrect.
The 80 series differential has the diff pumpkin on "your" drivers side, being the left hand side of the vehicle, which is why it is an ideal conversion.
several new hilux's have had the conversion done, and it suits as the transfercase is left hand dropped aswell.
the...
Just looking at the following pic from page one of this thread -
If comparing total diamters, there is bugger all difference between the two visually.....then again the stated Toyo 33.5 and Bighorns 33.3 must be pretty spot on then.
The Toyo looks chunkier due to the larger tread voids and...
I too have 3.73's in the hilux......do you regret not going to 4.5's ?
Aren't the 4.5's a stronger crown and pinion than the 4.8's ?
and will you take advantage of the new final drive ratio and go a taller tyre in the future?
I cant wait to have some spare cash for this mod...
