NM with Bank 1 Cam Advanced 2 Teeth! ugh

I am finally performing deferred maintenance on my '01 purchased in 8/15. Whomever was in this thing last was a complete Muppet! Cam seals cocked sideways, missing bolts, etc. From the start, I attributed the rough idle and excessive LTFT's to the usual suspects, coils, wires, plugs, dirty...

Deactivating Traction Control on Gen 3.5

Actively looking for another NM for my brother, I can now include the NP.

Deactivating Traction Control on Gen 3.5

I really think that the programmers of the Mitsu systems did a stellar job with the Montero's TCS. My primary reason for disabling the ABS on vehicles has to do with my left foot braking. Newer vehicles, particularly those with stepper motor controlled throttle butterflys, can chop throttle...

    03 Montero Rotella T6 Question

Good point. I would caution folks that haven't buttoned up their motor. Most of the diesel oils have additive packages high in zinc, that are bad news for cats. So if you are burning oil, maybe not the best choice until loss sources have been addressed. Officially though API SM rated oils...

    Offthepathadventures.com Gen 3 build

To my knowledge, the US 01/02 were not available with Traction Control nor Stability Control. Certainly my '01 Limited w/H-LSD does not have anything other than ABS, and Llc disables the ABS. I have no experience with Gen 3.5's. To my line of thinking, a Diff/Defeatable TCS combo would be the...

    03 Montero Rotella T6 Question

+1 Rotella. Dramatically quieted my lifters and the engine just seemed to "like it". In addition to the Montero, I use it in a Saab 2.3T, which is motor notorious for high oil temps, sludging, and just generally nuking oil. I have done Blackstone Labs UOA on the Saab's Rotella use and it was...

    Offthepathadventures.com Gen 3 build

Love the stealth mount! As for the TCS v. "Hyblid LSD", I specifically sought an 01/02 for the R. Diff and it has not disappointed. I think everyone here has sung the praises of the Montero traction control, but ALL systems of this ilk can be momentum killers, and certainly they are tough on...

Gen 3 Intake Manifold Lite Port/Blend

I matched the Lower portion of the upper manifold to the Lower Manifold and did some blending on the back side of the injector humps in the lower. I did not port match the heads, but will, if I end up pulling them. I did smooth out my water pump housing however. ;)

Gen 3 Intake Manifold Lite Port/Blend

After several months delay due to life's juggles, I am finally tearing back into Monty Nobaru, our '01 Ltd. Having done a DIY port/cleanup of my old 300EXC with fantastic results, I just couldn't bring myself to reassemble the manifold with the "parting lines" and "boogers" both in the runners...

Just a Pic of something I'm working on...

Very interested in doing this to my Gen 3. Is it possible to simply replace the factory display and simply have it display the factory HVAC/Compass/Trip info? Clearly, I am not an app writer... I know that I can do the Double DIN swap that many folks do, but a stand alone head unit with an...

Radflo suspension for 3rd gen montero

that old adage...if you have the means, by all means. FWIW I am a bit of a suspension dork, which is to say that I know my way around a shim stack and a shock dyno, and have driven a number of rally cars with DMS 50mm Rally Struts and Ohlins Group N stuff. The difference between something...

    Anyone monitoring air intake temps?

I use Torque Pro with my Gen 3 to monitor IAT over Ambient. The Monteros intake feede,r located at the high pressure area of the hood, does a pretty good job if you are moving, however temps spike when the going gets slow. Radiant barrier on the intake is very likely going to happen, and seems...

    Another "Which Shock" Thread

As with many, but not all things more expensive, the adage "If you have the means, by all means" is very true. Bilstein if you have the scratch. Period. THAT said, I went with KYB Gas-a-Just, as I have future plans of King/Radflow...BUT keep in mind that those thoughts were based upon what I...

Wheel spacers on a Gen III or "factory rims" to get better offset?

About to install some H&R v60 Spacers. I have had H&R spacers on a 4000 Quattro that I used to own, and the quality was fantastic. I am about to throw the "kitchen sink" at my '01, and the spacers will be going on prior to alignment/post suspension install. I wimped out and went with 265/75...

EyeInTheSky's Gen 3 Budget Build Thread

Congrats! Sounds like you are on the right track, but I would be cautious with anything other than Mitsu/KIA/Hyundai or ENEOS-SP fluid in the trans. Enjoy! After nearly a year of acquiring parts, I will be installing the WHOLE SHEBANG in the coming days....Suspension/Coils/Brakes/Coils/TB/WP/...

Gen 3 Suspension Bushings...What have you guys used?

Finally running through my '01 Limited which I purchased last Aug. No specific trips planned, however, I live in Moab, so Monty Nobaru sees mucho offroad "wheeling" and fast dirt road driving. Has anyone used Nolathane? Like them? Looks as though the Febest brand makes everything I need...

    Gen 3 Montero, won't engage 4Llc but 4H and 4Hlc work

Check your 4wd Selector When I purchased my 01 last year it had the 4wd disco dash. Much like you have, I replaced the vac solenoid for the front, and went through all sensors, etc. I remembered the dealer's mechanic had mentioned "working the transfer case lever real good". IN addition to...

    Gen 3 spring spacers

Interested I am considering going the spacer/shock route, and already have the TJM coils spacers, though not installed. How thick are these? I am leaning toward a 10mm at the struts, which should give me what I am after at the wheel.
