Finished up the driver side ball joints. I did not tackle the passenger side due to the weather but I did replace the blown OEM shock. The ride is much improved with the 4600 shocks in the front. No issues with the sway bar removed. The front end clunk is gone and was presumably the driver side...
I don’t like the 13.2 MPG overall average I get in my gas 2500, but the truck bone stock fits 35’s. With the stock 4.10 gears and 8 speed auto that has a 4.7:1 first gear it only needs the tire size programmed and no gear change. If you’re the kind to install your own lift the solid axle Ram and...
Took the T into the forest to go sledding. Very pleased with how it handles snow. The Nokian Rotiiva tires are awesome, wish they made them in a 35 for my Ram.
We got some sunshine today so I decided to start on the ball joints. Got the driver side lower in and yanked the sway bar because the...
I keep an older pickup around for work, local trips, and exploring the forest. It’s pretty economical if you do your own repairs. I also enjoy it but my other vehicle is a 2019 Ram. If you’re going to be paying a mechanic book time for repairs you’re better off having a newer vehicle.
Thank you! I have a white GSD and she’s just happy to go. I don’t think she cares how as long as she is with us. She does the same thing, loves waiting in the truck.
I’ve previously mentioned my rear end wiggle/wag on my 2500, particularly on concrete freeway joints. I decided I’m going to install the Thuren rear track bar and reassess. If it is satisfactory the next thing will be Fox 2.0 shocks for the stock rear springs.
Figured I’d keep a running thread in case it helps someone out.
Changed the oil in the diffs last week. The crush washers were probably last changed when the Toyota dealership serviced the axles in the late 90s, but no leaks. Oil looked good so it’s been changed since. The truck has been...
I’ve driven it quite a bit in the 5 days I’ve owned it and identified some minor issues. Figured I’d document it here.
First some pics of recent drives.
I noticed it was a little loud... guess 269k isn’t bad for a muffler and tail pipe?
Local shop installed a new muffler and bent up a...
The more I drive it the more I think it’s got a lot of life left in it. I have my 2019 Ram 2500 for long trips so the T100 will be used on local day and overnight trips.
First maintenance items are the transmission, diffs, and transfer case. That’s next weeks goal. Next month it will get a set...
Picked it up today. Have to say it’s an awesome truck. Records indicate it’s had an idler arm in the last 10k. Needs a few little things but nothing major.
I am want to service the diffs. Are the drain and fill plug washers for the rear the same as the Tundra and Tacoma with the 8.4” rear?
From all the reading I’ve done the chassis has more in common with the 86-95 US market pickup while the drive train is the same as the 1st gen Tacoma or 3rd gen T4R.
This example has 269k on it but it’s pretty much all highway. The engine is clean with no leaks. The transmission fluid is pink...
Should have it in my possession next week. I did get to drive it and it is a sweet driving truck that has been well maintained and never abused. It needs nothing but a driver seat belt and a tailgate bolt. This truck is truly a survivor.
Unless something changes I’ll be picking up a clean T100. It’s got a lot of highway miles but it’s super clean and has the 5VZ-FE. I’m going to keep it stock and use it for forest trips. It’s been well maintained and there are no glaring issues. Anything I should plan taking care of or be aware of?
The irony is an emissions intact 2007.5-2012 is less reliable and more maintenance intensive than 2013+. The pre SCR trucks need the EGR cleaned at 67.5k because of how much EGR they use to reduce NOx emissions. SCR equipped trucks use so much less EGR Cummins does not have an EGR valve cleaning...
From what you describe it sounds like you’ve isolated the play to the steering box. I have a Red Head in my K2500, it works great. I will never buy a parts house steering box.
I think my first change to the rear is going to be shocks and a track bar. Thuren claims their track bar resolves the issue I have which seems to be contained to concrete freeway slabs and bridges. Truck rides great, especially off pavement.
The Core 4x4 links are popular with the 1500 crowd...
