What can you tell me about the Chevy Avalanche?

Hi - so you want to overland an Avalanche? It is an extremely capable truck, more capable than people give it credit for, and by far the most functional body design for solving overloading issues - secured storage, large storage area, thru cab access, etc. But as others have mentioned, it's...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Thanks for the compliment on my rig. I have not posted in here because - well - I destroyed it in October in a really bad accident. I picked up another 02 Avalanche (except it's a Z71 and White) and am currently in the process of building it using all of the stuff from my black one.

Many thanks - yeah - I think it's actually the longest article they've ever run.

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Hi - trust me no discount paid full pop and then some as had to fab up mounting brackets and a new console. With that said, the Scheelmann's are one of the best pieces I have spent money on - and they are pricey. But, with my stock seats my back would start hurting after a few hours behind the...

Hey Vortec Guys! / Sierra pickup / Suburban / Yukon etc - Finally has Index!

You can run 33"s without doing anything to it really. If you want to run a 35" tire it needs to get leveled up and bigger. I did NOT use a lift kit because they are all either too high or not sturdy enough. I'm surprised a 2011 has torsion bars? I thought GM went away from those in 2007. Having...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Yip on the metal and driving - and weight. Note my second pic - add plate and a steel tube for more support as I have a lot of weight back there. Death Valley - if you come in via Trona - stop and check out the Pinnacles - just north of that is the entrance point to the Escape Trail - you can...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Thanks Drei - much appreciated. Some good things happening. At a minimum you should at least get those shock towers boxed in to increase the strength. I was completely shocked at how fragile they really are.

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

I think a combo. I was doing some really rugged terrain and my truck is a fatty. But the factory welds - suck. The thin stamped steel needs to be replaced - I knew that just hadn’t done it and it bit me. I was surprised to see when I ripped the entire upper tower away from the frame that there...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Once again - I have been preoccupied and not posting updates on here. Apologies. Since I last posted, I completed a 760 mile overland route through the Mojave - and in the process broke some significant stuff - namely the rear shock towers. I cracked the driver side and broke the passenger side...

"Double down or fold" - Part 2 ...

Mine came stock with 4.10s. I'm running 4.88s with 35" tires. Whatever shop refused the frontend re-gear - find another shop - it isn't that difficult. With the headers, gears, rerouted exhaust, S&B CAI tube with Sealed box, Superchips tune - I make most of my torque at 2200rpm now (rather than...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

I know - I meant the boots on the RCV axles are really thick silicone. Not likely to tear

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Nah - these things are REALLY thick.

Yip - went there and had a market night in the square. Cool church. Federalies walking around and drove by in a technical with qa 50 up top - I just waved and said Buenos tardes. They returned the greeting. All good.

Those guards are sweet and would definitely help the bellowed boots (I finally got sick of tearing them). But - why not just make them out of a stiff plastic? All you really need is something that would deflect it and that wouldn't add any weight at all.

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Rayra - we did just under 1000 miles - rented a Jeep. Flew into Cancun (but didn't go there). Xpu-Ha, Akumal, then to Coba and Valladolid. Then to Chichen Itza, Merida, Uxmal, and to Almaplena and Xcalak (very southern most point - so south was looking northwest to Belize, dead west to...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Hey Gang - some more updates. Just back from wandering about in the Yucatan (highly recommend it), but before I left, I took my Avalanche to my buddy and spec'd out a new front bumper design. The new design would be a bit more to my liking, drastically improve the approach angle, and make room...
