Tell me about shore power and converter chargers.

I also use WFCO Try: 30 amp should be enough. BTW grounding a shore power connection is not intuitive so one of these does it properly. Follow the directions.

    Solar power question

It should IF your furnace draws less than about 45Ah (500Wh) per night. Look up it’s Amp draw and estimate how long it actually runs overnight. I think you will be OK. How much battery do you have? You need 100Ah to be sure.

FS: Alpicool Fridges with upgraded LG Compressors (Edmonton, AB, Canada)

$319.99, my CF35 has LG compressor and is approaching a year of reliable use. Lets remember one could buy 3 or 4 of these for a Dometic or Engel. I decided to try. So far so good. Great bluetooth monitoring and setting app for my iPhone too.

    "Solar Generator"

Don’t think that when I built the portable power pack I did it to replace or substitute for a solar power/storage system in a vehicular overland rig. In my van (now sold) I used flooded led acid golf cart batteries and mounted solar on the roof. Why? Because if you are not really concerned...

    "Solar Generator"

OllieChristopher You say "My intent in regards to the solar generator discussion is to open up the possibility of best solutions for portability. I'm hoping some of the members here can come up with fabricating something comparable to the mass produced offerings. IMHO, I do not see that...

    Whynter 12v Fridge reviews? Alpicool?

I have had an Alpicool CF35 for nearly a year. It’s been faultless and the bluetooth app to my iPhone is great. It rides with us all summer in the back of the Rav4 and Tacoma on trips. These are now down to $279, run quietly and come with the DC cord and a 110V converter.

    Alpicool Fridge/Freezers?

I bought a CF35 last spring and used it throughout the summer on my WATTBOX or plugged in to the cigar lighter. It cost $299 on Amazon and now I see it for $279. Nice single box refrigerator with a small added cooler bin. The app does bluetooth and sends up the temp to my phone and I can do the...

    iPad 2 with GPS questions:

I use “TopoMaps” by Phil Endicot on my 16GB 2nd gen iPad w/GPS/Cellular. It is $7.99 in the app store but allows you to download any topo maps free. It doesn’t navigate you or do turn by turn but accepts waypoints to be uploaded for pre-planing turns and POIs I have most of southern AZ (all...

    Portable Power Pack

I’d say building mine wasn’t that hard nor time consuming really. Take a few hours on Amazon and order the parts, go to H-D or another store for a box, have some basic tools and put it all together in a long day. You can then have 1200 Wh with all the features for $800+- and weighing in at...

Adding Solar Panel to dual battery system....

Good advice ^^^^. I’d also look at what that refrigerator is drawing. I had a Norcold 3 cu ft wall refrigerator (NR751) and have since gone to a 35 liter chest (Alpicool CF35) as It is so much more efficient. It should run for about 4 days on those aux batteries. If your current fridg. runs...

    DIY Power Pack LiFePO4 WATTBOX

So you agree the storage I did in post#5 was correct? 60% and unused for 4 months should be ~48% when I return. Then near fully charge and use it.

Power pack to run ARB fridge while camping- questions

I built a 650 Wh (54 A-h) power supply in a tool box. It runs my Alpicool CF35 for two days w/o recharge but I have 100 W of solar, ac recharge and DC recharge available. I built LiFePO4 so I can extract 500 Wh (40 A-h) out safely. AGM or FLA equivalent to 1200 Wh. I run it on DC...

Blank Slate - Designing the Best Overlanding Navigation "system".

I spend time in the deep Sonoran Desert of AZ, in New England, Canada, and everywhere in between. I rely on an iPad with Cellular. Not that I pay the cell service but because iPads w/o cell do NOT have a GPS chip. I use the app “Topo Maps” from the Apple App store ($7.99). No subscription...

    DIY Power Pack LiFePO4 WATTBOX

Mine does have a BMS but the dedicated charger was not expensive and will “wake up” the BMS if it shuts down the battery. I do not keep it on a trickle/maintainer as I have had bad experiences with them left on all the time on my FLA and AGM/GEL batteries. Most folks don’t ever have issues but...

    DIY Power Pack LiFePO4 WATTBOX

Thanks I appreciate the support. The thing has worked great. We flew to AZ for winter so I had to leave it in NH for charged up to 60% as AIMS recommends. Power loss is 3%/mo so in April I’ll charge it and put it back to work. Another reason to go LiFePO4. Oddly I did have two things to fix...
