There are more and more structural foams available; I was able to get PE marine foam for 35% less $ than the equivalent rated PVC. It's heavier, but for my needs that's worth the financial outlay at this time. PU foam isn't as desirable because of its friability, but many many builds are out...
Unfortunately, the monolithic monstrosity adjacent to it says as much and more about the 'Spirit' of things; I had a similar shock with the big city feel of Abidjan after visiting other capitols and major cities in WA.
Anyone have a good diagram/pic of how the rim steps mount on? I'm about to have some wheels made, and if a small modification during manufacture would help this would be super nice down the road...
^this!
Every time I started down this path I ended up with a second or a third job, and inevitably an indoor place to crash and wash became the goal of one of those jobs. But being able to be independent whenever I wanted or needed was and remains always worth it.

I talked about this a lot with Yabanja who was chasing weight and balancing issues with his swb Fuso. He came to the conclusion that especially with a shorter wb that staying under 50% was really necessary for handling capabilities (and thus safety?). No intention here to quote/misquote him but...
This won't make you feel any better, but my rails were/are chopped immediately after the rear spring hanger mount. Despite extensive conversations with the agent in Japan before even bidding let alone buying and attempting knowingly to avoid this I ended up with a cut frame but in a place/way...

Yes, perhaps overall width is the caveat for most builds/builders. I have a narrow-body Hino/Toyota and am squeezing an East-West full width bed into it... but I'm barely 69" tall so we're only ending up with an outside dimension of 76.5". This does however leave me the opportunity to enclose...
Have you had any issues with this setup? I've been thinking of the same for stability/strength of the subframe and thus the box. It seems hardly ever done though... why?
Drool! I tried every which way to convince myself I needed one of those or the even rarer Dyna outfitted with the 15BFT and portals... I hope he get's it stinkin' dirty and often :ROFLMAO:.
Yeah the're not large by modern vehicle standards, although the 2nd gen which came out in the early 80s did have a wider track, bigger tyres, disc brakes, etc.
Heck, my 20 something year-old cabover 5.5ton truck looks small next to even a new Landcruiser.
