    Suburban/Tahoe(and GMC) pic/build thread

yeah, GM doesn't change the fit of things unless they have to (i.e. my '85 C-10 and '02 k1500 Sub use the same u-joints). It's a good bet that a 60/40 will fit the outboard bolt holes for 2nd row buckets. And will likewise fit a 60/40 from a GMT-400 series, too. But don't take my word for it...

Partial re-wire of my trailer - need help please

That reminds me I need to put my laptop on my Kill-A-Watt. Been planning to get a camper trailer and drag it around the nation and the big pig of a desktop PC and four monitors will NOT be going along. But I am intending to set two batteries matching what I use, into the trailer and likely...

    Los Angeles -Class Attack Sub(urban), Build / Collected Werks topic - '02 k1500 Z71

I've got 2" wheel spacers and a 2" coil spacer in the back. If I wind up rubbing anywhere it will probably be on the inner top edge of the fender well opening. But I'm still running stock size 265/70-17 and try to avoid going anywhere that I'll wind up with a wheel stuffed like that. That kind...

Finally did solar in my JK

Good stuff. I saw the circular hole. Bracket looked so nice / suited I wondered if it was some sort of option part by Victron. I've got Renogy PWM livign inside my 'power module' box in the back of my Sub, it's mounted with a tiny bit of standoff on the inside of the carpeted plywood lid of...

    Overlandtowater’s solid axle suburban

Easy enough to put a stop on it so it cant swing past say 92 deg. Could even get fancy and use a spring-loaded stop so it is held open. Or even pull up on the stop so you can swing it wide open when / where it's safe to do so. https://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/R2215.html

Finally did solar in my JK

Congrats on the install. How much of the roof does 200A cover and how did you choose to mount them, always 'deployed' / in use? You might consider adding some short standoffs between the victron and the bracket, not that it's likely to get too hot in the footwell. But it wouldnt hurt.

Partial re-wire of my trailer - need help please

And that's a carryover from residential wiring, where black is the conductor, white is a neutral / common and green is an earth ground. vs Automotive where red is typically positive and black is negative / ground. I've used black as some positive runs in my vehicle, but I've followed national...

Partial re-wire of my trailer - need help please

ho one other things what is the meaning of the double lines 40A in the upper right side of your diagram - do you mean two parallel runs fused at 40A each, for that stack of 15A fused circuits? Seems a terrible idea unless those two 40A runs only merge at the terminal lugs at each end of the...

Partial re-wire of my trailer - need help please

The transfer switch is an interlock that guarantees you cannot backfeed shore / grid power when you are using an alternate power source, be it generator or solar. It is specifically in place to prevent the potential electrocution of electricians working in a grid-down emergency. Thus if you are...

My first regear contact pattern opinions please

What a terrible idea to make it the same color as rust. All the colors of the rainbow to choose from. /they shoulda gone with zinc chromate

New Vehicle, new to all of this.

100cu' behind the front seats with any Suburban, an RTT seems a useless expense for fashion. An 8person ground tent is <$200. Hit the 'vortec and gmt800 mechnical' link in my sig and there's a roster of Suburban / Tahoe owners' build topics in this forum. Lots of ideas. Including one built out...

My first regear contact pattern opinions please

higher carbon steel, it is probably superficial rust, sure is the right color of rust, anyway. How was your gear oil and your vent cap / breather tube plumbed high? contact looks nice and centered as it should be. Any shims or things mate up that nice on the first go?

Dual battery in-cabin and Solar setup

Average Power Consumption: 40 Watt Current Draw on 12V: approx. 0.7 Ah/h hmm, those numbers don't match up very well. 12v at .7A is 8.4watts. But they state an average consumption of 40watts, which is 5x higher. I'd go with the higher stated consumption value, the 40W, which is ~3.5A at 12v...

Winch wiring (Anderson and gator clips)

no leave the gator clips out entirely and just run some wiring extensions from the battery to a grill or bumper plug and amend the winch's wiring with a matching plug. It's not difficult or even particularly expensive. /but speaking of anderson plugs on jumper cables - /all in my...

what on Earth is stuffed in the back of that Tahoe, that's a lot of weight to do that. The rear sway bar is only a limiter at max extension (as is the central brake line). The center of the bar comes to within 3/16" or so of the stock rear diff cover. Likewise keep an eye on the stock track...

    Overlandtowater’s solid axle suburban

Yeah that's a good build, but I think the tire ought to go directly behind the driver. Obstructions on that side always seem to bother me less.

    Overlandtowater’s solid axle suburban

I might have missed it, did you ever flush the entire brake system? I did mine ~4yrs ago when I first bought my used '02 Sub as part of baselining all the fluids. I don't think it had very been done, the fluid was nasty. Could something like that be causing your repeated caliper trouble? IIRC...

Dual battery in-cabin and Solar setup

time only really comes in when sizing a battery or calculating run time to the rule of thumb of 50% depletion as a limit to prevent incurring permanent damage to a storage battery. How long your given devices can suck on a battery until you have to switch off or recharge the battery. Amphours...

Dual battery in-cabin and Solar setup

ok, some basic electrical. Electrical current generates heat in the wire. The more resistance - a defect in the wire, a bad or corroded connection, a wire sized too small - you get more heat. Too much heat, too much current flow for a given wire size, the wire gets very hot, your wire insulation...
