dodge 2500 as GLOBAL expedition rig?

I've been researching stats and narrowing down my list of potential build platforms for a global expedition vehicle. I plan to do a major time/money consuming build and would really like to pick the right platform for my needs. A 1997/98 Dodge Ram 2500 with Cummins 12v and manual transmission...

Toilet Solution for LONG TERM Overlanding trips

Thats seems like a really complicated, expensive way of pooing in a plastic bag. I guess if you really hate the sight of your own poo, maybe its worth it to ya?

Toilet Solution for LONG TERM Overlanding trips

Thanks for the input everyone. I feel like I have a good plan A&B. I will consider the natures head as I try to design the layout of our next camper, but if I can't figure a way to make it fit. I'll be designing my own chem toilet, probably with an ammo box as the base/holding tank.

Toilet Solution for LONG TERM Overlanding trips

I'm definitely not going to anything that flushes. I see that as unnecessarily complicated and using water that I would rather have for drinking. Joe, diplostrat, I'm pretty sure you've both traveled internationally with your rigs. I'm wondering how easy/difficult it was to shop for peat moss...

Toilet Solution for LONG TERM Overlanding trips

Thanks for the input everyone. Grenadiers, I remember you, and yes, we are limited on space and weight, but our time south of Baja has us convinced that a toilet is a must, even if it is only used occasionally. I like the idea of the composting toilets, but the toilet plus the organic matter...

Toilet Solution for LONG TERM Overlanding trips

good recommendations guys. I've heard some mixed reviews about the composting toilets, but I will look into the Natures Head. I've heard that they aren't well sealed for off-road situations and that bumpy off camber tracks can lead to spillage, but I imagine your experience must say otherwise...

California to Panama in a T100

OK, way overdue on this one. We explored Guatemala pretty well on our way south, so we only had a couple of things on our todo list. We headed back to Antigua to enjoy more of the city and so that Amie could get a hair cut at a stylist recommended by some other overlander ladies. We then...

Toilet Solution for LONG TERM Overlanding trips

I have been trying to find a toilet solution for long term overlanding. My wife and I spent 17 months traveling through Mexico and Central America. During this trip we mostly dug holes or used provided toilets (despite whatever condition they were in) We also carried a Luggable Loo bucket/bag...

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

Any Idea how much epoxy resign used per square foot when laminating the skins onto the foam? I was thinking I would be fiberglassing my camper project, but seeing this I am curious about the skins now. They look great and I suspect you don't need as much resign as when your laying cloth so...

What are some of the most reliable old vehicles?

I would suggest further consideration of your needs to narrow your search. Basically every major manufacturer put out a good product at some point. I can think of Ford, Chevy, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Toyota, Dodge vehicles that would make good base vehicles as long as you get the right model, year...

    Brompton Folding Bicycles

Only a little bit of personal experience. I've never owned one, but have tried some. Just like a normal bike, you can get a cheap one or a nice one and you more or less get what you pay for. The one's that I like most (and most expensive) out of the ones that I have tried are the Brompton bikes...

California to Panama in a T100

Thanks Jack. It was a bummer, but (spoiler alert) we got it fixed and it's been solid ever since. The details should be in the next episode, or maybe the one after. Thanks for watch.

California to Panama in a T100

Ioverlander does not need to be connected to cell service to work. But we did experience issues with the map occasionally not loading properly when not connected to service/wifi. You can still see the pins, just not a detailed map, so if you download areas in google maps for offline use ahead of...

California to Panama in a T100

Honduras/Guatemala border crossing. This was a weird one. Honduras and Guatemala seem to be trying to create a cooperative border system where both countries shared one building. It sounds like a good idea, but the result was that we didn't know where to go to check out of Honduras or into...

California to Panama in a T100

Honduras was awesome! Well preserved forest with clearly marked trails, cheap scuba diving in the Caribbean, dog friendly national parks, and tons of cool birds. Road closers near La Tigre caused us to skip a few areas we had planned to go to, but we got some good hiking and kayaking in at...

    awnings for winds?

I have the same ARB 2500. We've had it in steady winds of 15 knots and gust of at least 25 knots with out issue. We also had a pole snap in the first heavy rain we experienced traveling in Mexico. We had both legs lowered all the way and the water pooled on top till it broke. What we've done...
