Aftermarket Catalytic Converter(s) for '02 Montero

Starting this thread I was preparing for the worst case...failed cats. After running some diagnostics (live check with the UltraGauge), the sensors appear to be working fine. It looks like I've skated through this issue without depleting the wallet. The rig is due for a smog inspection this year...

    Trans dipstick level

If the Gen II Monteros are similar to the Gen III, you need to check the fluid level with the engine running. Bring the motor to operating temp. (I usually take it for a drive.) Run the transmission through all of the gears, return it to N, then check the fluid level while parked on a level...

    Gas - Plastic or metal

I've been using good 'ol Blitz cans (metal) for over thirty years. With a fresh o-ring every ten years or so, I've never had an issue. Cheers

How To: Adding a Cabin Filter to Gen III Montero

My Montero has the same brackets. I just reinstalled them after installing the cabin air filter. It looked like they could be stiffeners/reenforcement for the dash, or perhaps supports for the glovebox when it's closed, but not sure. Cheers

    Battery Questions

Some batteries are designed for use as a starting battery and a deep cycle. One I'm familiar with is the yellow top Optima. I'm sure there are other batteries designed for both... You may think about posting this question in the "Power Systems" forum...you'll likely get a lot more input. Cheers

    Pajero Rear Door Weight Limit?

On longer trips (8-10 days), I carry a five gallon Blitz can of fuel. (Trail buddies have extended range fuel cells) I fabricated a mount on the rear door for the fuel. The mounting points are solid, as well as the hinges. In the past, after a summer of wheeling, I have readjusted the strike...

    Dash Designs seat covers?

I've thrown the Cabellas in both of my kid's rigs (Toyota p/u, Geo Tracker). They are an excellent value imo. (I'm not a big fan of neoprene covers...if I'm wrapped in rubber, I'd rather be surfing!) Cheers

Aftermarket Catalytic Converter(s) for '02 Montero

This is excellent information, and greatly appreciated. (Although, the link does not seem to work...I'll start searching.) I'm armed and ready for diagnosis this weekend (after I button up some work on the VW's front end) Cheers.

Aftermarket Catalytic Converter(s) for '02 Montero

I figure that was the case...since I'm in California, I'll likely get a "Cali. Cat.", if I ended up replacing them. Thanks for the tip on CataClean! I may give it a try... Cheers

Aftermarket Catalytic Converter(s) for '02 Montero

Thank for the reply! I also replaced my sensors with Denso. It would be a much easier/cheaper repair if I don't have to replace the cat(s). I plan on looking into the issue this weekend. Fingers crossed it is a sensor...

Aftermarket Catalytic Converter(s) for '02 Montero

Thanks for the reply. I'm getting P0431 (cat. not getting to proper temp.). The O2 sensors were replaced in the last 80K, so I wasn't thinking this was the issue, but I've still got to test them. I don't think it's a vacuum leak, because when I clear the code, it doesn't pop on for a few days...

Aftermarket Catalytic Converter(s) for '02 Montero

...so, everyone is still running factory installed Cats. on their Gen. 3? Not sure about the rest of the states, but in California we have been blessed with three Cats. in our Montero.

What did you do to your Mitsubishi today?

Since you were looking for a 200amp, it's just as well because the Denso (210-4178) is a mere 100 amp unit. Cheers

What did you do to your Mitsubishi today?

Glad to hear you are sorting things out! Currently I'm running a DieHard Platinum (marine deep cell/starter) group 34, AGM, 850 cca, 135 rc. It has an additional set of posts to hook up a compressor etc. With Sears going out of business, I doubt these are available any more. I'm curious why...

Aftermarket Catalytic Converter(s) for '02 Montero

Greetings, After over 230K miles, I'm considering replacing the cats. on my 2002 Montero. Currently, I'm looking for reviews/feed-back on after-market products. When rebuilding my kid's '86 Toyota Pickup, we installed a Walker system (complete with Cali. Cat.). It has met my expectations...

    89 GEN1 AW372 Manual Shaft Seal

I've used Partouq for the Montero as well as other vehicles. Why wouldn't you order the parts from them? You will receive the correct part, rather then looking for some other vehicle that "uses the same part". The delivery is "fast", often arriving in under a week.

What did you do to your Mitsubishi today?

PaydayGabe, Is the alternator is still the original unit? If you are thinking of replacing the unit, I'd go with a Denso. As far as battery size, I've always run a group 34 (AGM) in my Gen III. Good luck with your diagnosis.
