    Let's talk about buckets

Since I'm gonna be spending a lot of time in National Parks here in a few weeks, and have been buying various bits of kit like crazy, my thoughts turned to the ol' requirement to carry an axe, shovel, and bucket, in federally managed wilderness. (i don't know if this is actually law or just best...

    Which EV would you buy?

I paid the $100 deposit to get on the list for a Cybertruck, but I'll be waiting to see how they actually stack up in the real world before buying it though.

Help me understand: How does a fridge not drain away your battery?

good info. fortunately my discovery sport came with an AGM battery, so already have that covered. AFAIK though it's not possible to swap it for a larger one.

Help me understand: How does a fridge not drain away your battery?

Thank you everybody, there's a lot to process here. I don't think I can shoehorn a true dual battery system into my little Land Rover Discovery Sport, space is already at a premium. But, given everything I've read I think the prudent thing will be to buy a lithium "generator" from Goal Zero or...

Help me understand: How does a fridge not drain away your battery?

So assuming a fresh battery (I'm getting a brand new battery installed this saturday), how long can you actually run a fridge before it cuts off? With a mid-range fridge like the Indel B, is it safe for an entire day? I do always have a jump pack in the car already.

Out with the Cruiser in with the Rover

it sits a little low for comfort, stock clearance is just over 8". But with properly sized tires and springs comes up to 10". In fully stock form I had no issues with the trails in Oklahoma I was on last weekend. It's not crawling any rocks, but it made it up and down some deeply rutted...

Help me understand: How does a fridge not drain away your battery?

Sorry if this is covered in other threads, but I have been looking and missed it. I'm interested in adding a fridge, probably one of the moderately priced ones, my eye is currently on the Indel B TB31. But i'm a little terrified of waking up in the morning and not being able to start my truck...

Out with the Cruiser in with the Rover

Well. My order for the Front Runner rack fell through. Nobody I can find has one on hand, and Front Runner is saying it will be 3-4 weeks before any are available. But I'm leaving for 2 weeks in the Colorado Rockies in just under 3 weeks, and need a rooftop storage solution. Fortunately, my DS...

Out with the Cruiser in with the Rover

Yeah, the D5 is an impressive vehicle. My little DS is my "bridge" to one. I'm expecting to keep this for 2-3 years and then upgrading to a D5. I have a few more years of financial and lifestyle changes to make before I can do serious overlanding anyways, and the DS is much more suited to my...

    Lets talk shovels

I think they discontinued it for some hair brained reason, but I've had the folding shovel from Barebones Living (shown below) for years, and it's one of my favorite pieces of kit. Plus it looks damned good.

Out with the Cruiser in with the Rover

yeah, would be nice, but it doesn't seem to hurt because of it. The Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk is an almost perfectly comparable vehicle, except that the Jeep has a true permanent 4WD system and a real real locker, and I haven't found a video yet where the Jeep was proved to be any more capable...

    An Axe - Seriously?

my 2-bits. I camp for the enjoyment of the experience. This means sometimes I use tools or techniques that I find more enjoyable than their more "efficient" alternatives. Like cooking on a cast iron skillet over an open fire instead of boiling water in a backpacking stove to prepare freeze dried...
