    2006 Suburban Build

Phantom Canyon and 11 mile must mean you are in southern CO. Pretty easy stuff that a stock sub could cruise without any issues. I've had a customer run phantom Canyon to Cripple Creek in a newer Corvette and while I didn't recommend it, his car survived. Most of the trails on this end...

K5 Camper. My offroad home away from home.

I was thinking more along the lines for my wife, but ok. Funny guy.

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

I'd agree that using the aux rear tank that was available on the 2500 Suburbans would be the ideal way to go. No need to re-engineer something that the factory already did. Routing the exhaust over a tank isn't a good idea.

K5 Camper. My offroad home away from home.

Not much in updates lately. I tinted the windows in the camper a couple of weeks ago to add privacy and help limit the UV exposure to the inside. It's bleaching out the curtains my sisters made for it a while back. Case in point. The bottom pane is 35% tint and the upper has not been done...

The curtains came out great. I'd get to tinting the camper windows pronto if you want them to stay looking like that. My sisters made me some out of red/black plaid like the Woolrich models get now and the sun over the last year has started to bleach them. You get just as much sun down there...

    K5 Blazer with Hallmark Camper.

They just don't come any cleaner than this. 1990 K5 Blazer with a Hallmark camper. Slightly larger than a FWC Blazer camper in the overcab area and it sticks out past the tailights slightly. But since the '90 has factory TBI fuel injection and a bulletproof SM465 manual transmission it's got...

I've got the skid for the fuel tank to install on mine. It's a heavy chunk. However it really only prevents punctures to the tank. On my old '75 I actually got hung up on the fuel tank skid. Rear wheels hanging in the air total stuck. The skid supported the entire weight of the truck...

On the RV's because there was 30+ feet of fuel line from the tank to the engine we usually kept the mechanical pump in play to aid in pulling fuel up to the carb. But we were also using a high volume hot rod style mechanical pump too. On a much shorter K5 you could omit the mechanical because...

Agreed. Dialing a pump good for 55-65 psi down to 4-6 psi is overkill. It's going to be sending a majority of the fuel right back to the tank from the regulator. Adding a basic fuel pump out back to limp the carb along until you are ready to swap is fine. My Dad and I did that on 454...

I'm running 4" rough country springs up front, 4" ORD shackle flip out back. Bilstein 5100's all the way around. I wouldn't recommend the rough country springs, mainly because there are better options out there. This is the second truck I've had them on and with all the wheeling I've done...

I'm running the ord disconnects on mine. I never pull the pin on them. We really put them on to correct the position of the bar with the 4" springs. If you run without the bar has to reach down at a pretty heavy angle and makes the bar act like one that is thicker/higher rate. That makes...

4" of lift is the highest I'd go. My buddy with a 77/fwc went 6" with his big block Dana 60/14b combo and it was night and day difference on the trail. He was hanging a wheel in the air on almost every hard spot the group started to refer to it as a tricycle. It got spooky at times. Ord's...

They both are right on the money. With the fan too deep or too far out it can't draw air through as efficiently. Oilbrnr was with me on beef basin road outside of Canyonlands. The 5.3 in my Blazer started overheating driving slow uphill. I was using the stock fan for a 5.7 serp drive with...

That fix should go along with replacing the particle board FWC used on that cab wall and in the cabover floor. Mine was swelled and rotten due to a roof leak, but I wouldn't trust sleeping up there on particleboard as it lacks support over a larger area than other FWC model campers like a Grandby.

They are epic overland trucks. Mine gets tons of looks out on the trail in a sea of Jeeps and Toyotas. Extremely capable, easy to modify and repair and get parts for. As far as the sealing problems between the camper and the cab go, there is an easy fix. Get a second stock K5 top. I found...

5 Slot mags, Vectors or Turbines. US Mag does make a 17" size of the slot mag wheel that would look ************** on it. I think the look of the slots would still feel period correct even in the larger size. Besides most of the younger crowd wouldn't pay attention to the fact that 17" wheels...

    1977 GMC Jimmy High Sierra

You know you can wheel and not bouce things off rocks and trees right? So you can't go down the Rubicon with it, but there are so many other places you can take it. I beat the tar out of my 75 because it was hammered before I got it. But I've taken my 91 into the same places and trails...

    Thinking about a 2-dr Tahoe...

The 96 and later Vortec engine would be more desirable for the better power and later upgrades to the 4L60e trans. The dash layout is better on the 96 and up trucks too. Both will get you where you want to go once it's mechanically up to speed. The space in a 2dr is bigger than the previous...

What would you do? Chevrolet Silverado died

This is very accurate. We see this exact issue at the dealership on a regular basis. Low oil pressure warnings but no actual symptoms of an engine running with low oil pressure like noisy valvetrain or rod knocking noises. This little screen is only on the engines with the AFM system. When...
