Adventures with our 2025 Rivian R1S dual motor max pack

Our last family camping trip of the year was to Green River state park, and then a hike into Horseshoe canyon, part of canyonlands national park. It was a 100 mile tow each way, and again towing, especially up and down step grades, is so easy you hardly realize there are hills. The campground...

Adventures with our 2025 Rivian R1S dual motor max pack

My son and I went to Telluride to do the via ferrata route, and it was a blast! (If you're not afraid of heights!) We went over last dollar road on the way home which is a mild 4x4 route but a bit chewed up from people driving it when it was muddy, and there was a bit of snow in the woods after...

Adventures with our 2025 Rivian R1S dual motor max pack

I picked up 5 dodge ram 20" wheels that others have found will clear the large front brake calipers and some 275/60r20 all-terrain tires, which is fortunately a common size on full size trucks and matches the stock 22" wheel tire diameter. I'll keep the all-season set for longer road trips.

Adventures with our 2025 Rivian R1S dual motor max pack

We took our trailer to Ridgway state park (about 90 miles) and towing is so effortless. Our trailer is 22' and about 5000 lbs and you can barely feel there's a trailer attached. We went to the top of owl creek pass to do some hiking and see the colors as well. I used an adapter for the tt-30...

Adventures with our 2025 Rivian R1S dual motor max pack

I got to try out camp mode when hiking Mt. Massive by Leadville. It levels the vehicle using the air springs and you can keep the climate control running during the night. I'm 6'6" and I'm able to lay down in the back with the second and third rows down, which is awesome. It got below freezing...

Adventures with our 2025 Rivian R1S dual motor max pack

Comparing the clearance between my 4runner on 37's and the rivian in highest suspension mode.

Adventures with our 2025 Rivian R1S dual motor max pack

We got our Rivian at the end of September, right before our early pricing expired. The only option we added was the max pack which has a rated range of 410 miles. We picked it up in Denver and got to test out that range driving back 250 miles on I70 to Grand Junction (still had 30% left when we...

    Ideal home charging system

I installed a 14-50 outlet in our garage and have been using it for the last 5 years for our bmw i3, and for our Rivian R1S as well for the last two months (and for the welder when needed). I do want to add another circuit for a hard wired evse eventually to be able to go up to 48 amps, but even...

Fisker Files For Chap 11 Bankruptcy Today

Those fiskers will probably be collectible in a few years! A fast charging station is supposed to open in Moab this month (besides the two tesla locations already there). I don't see the need for running new transmission lines to remote areas just for charging, but it may just mean...

R1T, that’s watts up. Our new beginning

The gen 2 show as available in the shop when I'm logged in, and others have reported ordering (but not yet receiving) them. The end of September is the cutoff to take delivery. The main things that draw me to the gen 2 are the improved suspension on the R1S, reduced phantom drain and...

R1T, that’s watts up. Our new beginning

I'm looking forward to seeing what adventures you take it on! I have an early preorder and was waiting to see what changes came to the refreshed R1S. I will likely go for the refreshed dual motor max pack since I've seen some available in the shop, but need to make a move before the end of...

    2004 Tacoma SAS

Are the Landcruiser tone rings and sensors going to give the correct signal for the tacoma? I had thought of trying to do something to add tone rings to the Landcruiser hub (I'm running locking hubs) but haven't bothered so I just have all the dashboard lights on.

    HUMMER EV EarthCruiser

I appreciate that you drove it out instead of just having it shipped, it must have taken a bit of time cleaning it up for the show! I like how integrated it looks instead of looking like an add-on. I have a Rivian R1S reservation and have thought about how it would look to remove the rear roof...

    2004 Tacoma SAS

I did a similar swap last winter on my 2004 4runner. I used an fj80 front axle but cut the knuckle balls loose so I could flip the housing and I also added 4" to the width. Lots of cutting, fitting, adjusting, etc!

    Epic Willys Adventure

Some guys I know are in the middle of driving their 40's and 50's Jeep Willys across the country on their way to easter jeep safari. They started with 8 vehicles but are down to 7. They are going to be at Moab Outpost 4x4 during the week to share about their trip. I'm looking forward to hearing...

I just broke a second axle. Ideas?

Also check that the cv isn't binding. I had to swap out an aftermarket cv to a rebuilt oem because the aftermarket was slightly binding at full droop (icon extended travel coilovers).jack the front end up so the tires are off the ground and spin the tires by hand to see if there are points of...

Head gasket repair on 4th gen 4runner V6

I read several threads on other forums about it and figured I could manage it. I have done a timing belt before on a 30 valve v6 and other engine and drivetrain work, so I felt okay taking this on. The rusted bolts, tight crank bolt and difficult to access rear water bypass joint were probably...

    Fatbikes in the snow

If there's no snow...go for a beach ride! I took advantage of a lowered reservoir level to play in the sand and test out my new tubeless setup.

    Picked up a Salsa Mukluk

I used the original surly rim strip. I had considered adding a wrap of duct tape but didn't. It held up to 25 psi when I first inflated it although it bulged more than I like. It looks okay at my trail pressure of about 8-9 psi.

Head gasket repair on 4th gen 4runner V6

Yeah, the service manual is pretty specific on where and how much sealant to apply. I tried to do it just like it showed. Especially the spot next to the main oil passage from the oil pump. I also didn't pull the oil pan off but used some grease to keep the o-ring in the bottom of the front...
