Some sort of disconnect switch is definitely in my future.
I looked into Jimmi Jammers last night while waiting for the cops. Problem is in my case they didn't pop the lock out but rather punch the whole cylinder in damaging the door in the process. They mention exterior reinforcing plates on...
Well that was an emotional roller coaster but we got the van back!!!
I posted it to Facebook and through a bunch of re-shares it was located. Turns out they had parked it behind an apartment that a friend of a friend of a friend lived in. I staked out waiting for the police and it's now back...
Our van was stolen from our back yard last night.
Stolen From Calgary, AB
If you live in or around Southern Alberta please keep your eyes open and call the cops if you spot it. Distinguishing feature would be the large mud tires with black wheels.
The power of the internet is a...
I have an embarrassing install question but I'm a little stumped. Do I need any spacers to make these seats work? My floor appears to be convex and the seat does not sit flat. I've seen some people cut out the rubber but I've already got a carpeted cab and cutting out the thin carpet wouldn't...
I guess what I'm curious about now is why not just skip the "sub floor" and go straight to "finished floor". Obviously you can't do this with a tongue and groove hardwood but you absolutely could with a marine grade plywood. Vinyl/laminate or not your going to put 3/4 or 1/2 ply down as a sub...
How thick is the veneer on marine plywood? I had never thought of this being an option but if you're going to use a plywood subfloor under a vinyl floor you could save weight, install time and potentially cost by using a veneered plywood. We have birch veneer plywood in our kitchen at home and...
Haven't done the springs upgrade yet. Life got busy. I'm hoping to get to it in the fall but according to my "one project at a time" rule I have to finish a pesky bathroom renovation first.
Very happy with the tires this far. No rubbing and look great. I also continue to be impressed with...
What year is your van? Are the knuckles different between the 92-97 (cc880s) vans and the 98+ vans?
I've always wondered why Moog has the CC880 and CC880s for 92-97 vans and then the CC81368 and CC81366 for 98+ vans.
After a busy July we finally got out on our first trip. A 2,500km round trip for a week of Mountain Biking in the Chilcotins.
They definitely put the "mountain" in mountain bike around there...
But first something needed to be done about the lack of stereo. We picked up a Sony XAV AX100...
I ordered my wheels and tires online at pmctire.com
I want to say it went super smooth but the stick on weights they used to balance the tires ended up rubbing the calipers. Apart from that little (not so little) detail it's hard to beat the prices from PMC in Canada.
What he said. I just did this and the trimming is very minor. My van also has running boards and in my case they didn't get in the way one bit.
Details and pictures - http://forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/173975-Albert-Class-B-Grampa-Van-Build?p=2339570#post2339570
The tires are BFG All Terrains 265/75r16 mounted on American Racing AR172 Baja 16x8" wheels with 4.5" backspace and 0mm offset.
I do have plans to take the running boards off but haven't gotten around to it yet. The tires don't rub the running boards so it didn't make the list of immediate...
New rubber day!
They needed a wee bit of trimming and I ran into a few other issues but I'll cover that with better photos when I've got a bit more time.
If you're getting new wheels with your tires and don't need to get them mounted locally pmctire.com is a great resource. Lots of selection and very competitive prices.
Oh that button... Haha. Very cool.
I updated the thread with a little background information. Shorter version is as follow....

Here's what we used to use:

After being out of the country for the last week and enjoying some summer snowboarding at Mt. Hood I picked up the van from the out of province yesterday. The technicians were happy with the quality of the van but as expected I failed due to cracked sidewalls on the tires. No big deal, I've...
I'm at ~33.5" from the ground to the fender edge so things are a little saggy. This works out to about ~19.5" from hub centre to fender edge up front. I'm another 1/2" lower in the back or ~19" from hub centre to fender edge.
Considering the rear doesn't have any load in it at the moment I'll...
