1990 3/4 ton Suburban, 350 engine, SM465 manual trans, E locker in the back, 2.5" lift, 33" tires. Old enough to have factory straight front axle but new enough to have fuel injection. Room for an air mattress in the back so no more sleeping on the ground. Subs are great rigs.
Just looking at this map while in isolation is tough. It's sunny out, and the camper van is sitting in the backyard. I totally understand staying home is the right thing to do, but this map calls me. Such a wonderful area.
Not mine. No other other knowledge about it. Located in Mount Kisco, NY.

A couple of questions for the group as I try to learn more about ambulance boxes:
I found this description near the top of this thread:
"What types of Ambulances are there to choose from?
Type 3- A cut-away van based ambulance with an aluminum box.
Type 3 MiniMod- A smaller type 3. Easiest...
Another vote for the Suzuki Vitara/Grand Vitara. I've had a 2001 GV for ten years as my daily driver and it's been the most reliable car I've ever had. Simple and easy to work on. I converted the front to manual hubs, which is super easy to do. I have the V6 so the gas milage is not as good as...
Last weekend at Meadows Campground, near Hart's Pass, Wa. Perfect weather at 6,300 foot elevation. This place had been on my To-Do list for far too long.
"Diesel for overlanding- are you happy with the choice?"
As the owner of a 2006 FORD 6.0 diesel, I'd say no, I'm not happy with my choice. Way too much money has been spent to keep it running. A V10 would have been a better choice, but owning a camper van doesn't allow me to sell the truck and...
This coming Saturday afternoon there will be a van meet at Freedom Vans in Bellingham, Wa. This is open to all vans and people interested in vans This is not my event but I will be there. Freedom Vans, 3115 Mercer Ave, Suite 103 Bellingham, WA 98225.
Camping along the Columbia River east of Towal, Washington. Sleeping upstairs with the windows down on warm summer nights is the best. Gonna have to wait a few more months before I can do that again!...
Yes, it's the remote oil cooler that is in the way of the front drive shaft on a 4x4 conversion with the BPD full kit. You can use the Ford oil cooler or figure out a place to put the oil cooler somewhere else. My van is in the shop now and I decided to go with a new factory Ford oil cooler.
"The problem, if not covered in my thread, but definitely covered elsewhere, is that it's a tough fit. The Astro is wider than all the normal truck axles, and the 4" passenger side offset makes it even harder still. I think a wide-body full-size Jeep Dana would fit (with a lot of custom work to...
I've been working on rebuilding the poptop on my Sportsmobile since early spring when I discovered a crack in the fiberglass top. After I found the crack, one of the solar panels was stolen and that left 4 holes going through the roof. Water damage from the open holes resulted in the door skin...
Love this area. I've been there a couple times. Some photos from one trip: https://expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/owyhee-area-next-week.126075/page-2#post-1588884
I had a leak in the poptop of my 12 year old SMB last winter and I found it in the spring. First photo is the largest cracked and damaged spot. I ground off the paint and gelcoat and found a crack large enough for a knife blade to slide in. Second photo is after all the clear coat and paint was...
