Looking for a GenII gas tank

I don't know exactly where the leak is but it's not the bottom. Somewhere between the tank and rear driveshaft.

Looking for a GenII gas tank

Folks, I'm trying to locate a used gas tank (and shield) for my 96 SR. I think the LS models have the same tank. If anyone has one in SoCal or can point the way I'd greatly appreciate it. Obviously no rust and no leaks/damage please. For the junk yard suggestions, please note I'd not in the...

Need help with a power window (doesn't move)

Problem fixed. The issue was the connectors on the rear window switch. I realized this after taking the switch out of the door and checking. The contributing factor was that in order for the motor to function (even when testing from the driver's door) the switch on the door with the issue has...

Need help with a power window (doesn't move)

Thanks for the advice guys. My plan is to connect direct power to the motor to make sure it works. If it does, then it must be a wiring issue. I'll try and wiggle to see if its between the door and body. Otherwise I think I have to tear it apart and trace the wire. Anyone know where the...

Need help with a power window (doesn't move)

A few days ago I noticed the rear left window was down and would not roll up. Upon examination I could hear the motor working (and struggling) but very little window movement. Once I had the door apart, I was again playing around with the power window to see if I could see what it was doing...

Cautionary Tale for Montero Owners Who Need To SMOG Their Car

So did you go back? The cat test is the hardest to get to run but I got it passed without having it set.

Cautionary Tale for Montero Owners Who Need To SMOG Their Car

That's a great document. Looks like this came after they passed the rules. But yes looks like you're fine and ready to smog. If they don't penalize shops for testing and passing cars with one monitor set then you're good to go. Just check readiness prior to testing to ensure there still set.

Cautionary Tale for Montero Owners Who Need To SMOG Their Car

Do NOT reset the ECU. That only hurts what you're trying to accomplish. First Drive Cycle refers to the car being cold I believe. Keep in mind a few things: - The idea of readiness tests is that they run on their own in the course of regular driving. So some of these will happen. - Some...

Cautionary Tale for Montero Owners Who Need To SMOG Their Car

Here's the deal: - Go drive the car in various conditions and then hook up your app again. I bet you more will be complete. When you turn the car off those will probably reset. Clearing codes will reset all of them. Ultimately you may end up with one monitor set to not ready. - Appendix J...

Cautionary Tale for Montero Owners Who Need To SMOG Their Car

Sorry I missed the year. Check out this document which I believe covers all MY99 Mitsubishi vehicles. Look up the item, note the pattern, then scroll down for the cycle steps. But first you have to scan the car to see what's not set. http://www.mitsupartsworld.com/Endeavor%20TSB/tsb0413012.pdf

Cautionary Tale for Montero Owners Who Need To SMOG Their Car

Hi Clem, The cheap scanners will work. Just make sure it reads readiness monitors. Get one, scan it, then post which monitors are not set. Also post any pending or other error codes. The drive cycle info can be found in a link at the bottom of my post.

Cautionary Tale for Montero Owners Who Need To SMOG Their Car

The evap monitor sets to not ready when you turn the car off. But a short drive fixes that. Just don't turn the car off. For the cat monitor it is very difficult to set. Per the documentation I provided it's an almost impossible process. The government knows this and therefore says to ignore...

Cautionary Tale for Montero Owners Who Need To SMOG Their Car

I believe you're correct in that a non-STAR station should be more likely to SMOG the car. But good luck finding them. I think I found one on a state search engine but the shop didn't even SMOG. But technically with the rules now I believe a pre-2000 car should be allowed to proceed with two...

Just bought a 96 Montero SR...joining the crowd

Just started another thread about SMOGing older cars. I suggest reading it as a cautionary tale. http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/140694-Cautionary-Tale-for-Montero-Owners-Who-Need-To-SMOG-Their-Car

Cautionary Tale for Montero Owners Who Need To SMOG Their Car

As usual a month ago I received the notice from the CA DMW to renew the registration on my 96 Montero SR 3.5 (OBD II). Part of the request was the semi-annual SMOG test. I know a bit about the process and the system and I've done this many times. No big deal I thought. So a week or two later...

Just bought a 96 Montero SR...joining the crowd

Replaced a little part today that I wanted to share. Since owning the car for a number of years, coolant has always weeped out of the top of the expansion tank. Even after servicing the entire cooling system. It tends to happen I think when the engine compartment gets really hot (extended...
