[Android] Back Country Navigator vs. Gaia GPS vs. Trimble Outdoor Naviagtor??

Is there an app that will turn the tablet into a garmin GPS? Or am I dreaming of something that doesn't exist?

    BFG KM2

Not so good on ice. But excellent on street and rocks. I don't do mud except when I can't go around it

    Stove/fuel canister compatibility question

I was under the impression that these canisters had a bit of propane in them as well. And that's why inverted canister stoves like the MSR windpro work so well with an inverted can. I've also heard of people recharging the canisters, but don't really have any experience with that at all.

    quality winches?

Quick google search shows it at $649 with $80 mail in rebate. So $569 with free shipping from winchdepot.com No affiliation with that seller, YMMV, yada yada.

    quality winches?

I'd rather buy a warn m8000 and not bother with the spares. Just install with extra fat wires and military type battery terminals. The Warn is only about $200 more. And that is the best $200 you can spend, IMO. You definitely get what you pay for. As for the high lift jack, they're very handy...

    quality winches?

Last time I looked a brand new warn m8000 is about $600, smart shopper price. You still need to mount it up, and need accessories (snatch, tree saver, shackles etc)

    quality winches?

Honestly I would rather buy a used warn m8000 and refurbish that instead of most of the cheap winches out there. The very last thing you want is to have your emergency recovery equipment not work when you need it. You can find used winches for very reasonable amounts of money. Usually just...

Torque Wrenches- Massive price spectrum, what do I actually need?

The ones with the bendy beam and fixed pointer can be calibrated by yourself. Just move the pointer to zero it.

Torque Wrenches- Massive price spectrum, what do I actually need?

For truly budget and occasional use, the flexing-beam type torque wenches have no moving parts and have excellent repeatability--if you can see the scale. These are the $15 units from craftsman and other suppliers. All work the same and are equally good units for the price.

Torque Wrenches- Massive price spectrum, what do I actually need?

The snap on twin beam torque wrenches are manufactured by precision torque wrench. The 1/2" drive 20-250 ft.lbs. wrenches go for around $150 smart shopper price. Very good quality units, and very repeatable. Also they can be sent for calibration. For smaller fasteners and internal engine...

    quality winches?

+1 First thing I do is upgrade the battery terminal clamps and replace the power wires to the winch. Bigger = better.

    2002 Land Cruiser questions

For heavy loads I'd probably toss some 80-series stock rear coils in and diddle with the ahc until its set up properly. I'm sure that Slee's module can be turned off to allow lowering of the vehicle for highway speeds. The big concern with that wouldn't be bottoming out or rubbing on...

SOP. That's the phrase I was looking for. Thanks :)

Dealer Service on a '12 JKUR, do they even know what Rubicon is?

Good thing is that LSD additives won't hurt anything. Many gear oils have that additive built-in. From the dealerships perspective I'm sure the parts counter has gotten in trouble many many times for not supplying it to their lube techs. And from a lube techs perspective if they forget to put...

What is the greatest overland vehicle ever sold new in the US?

The whole auto vs manual debate had pros and cons to both. Main benefit of the manual trans would be simplicity and strength. Even with a bit of water contamination, the innards will hold up quite well to that and other neglect and abuse. Not much going on inside one of these bad boys. The...

    Water Filtration / Purification

For large groups it may seem slow, but I assure you it's faster than my msr waterworks2. Our scout troop has no problems with it, and there isn't much of a lineup. Two filters, 22 scouts. Scouters have their own (mine). I collect 1/2gal water in one bladder, hang it up and go do something...

    Water Filtration / Purification

For backpacking, I'm using the MSR gravity works filter. Simple, ultra lightweight, no pumping, just wait a bit and water is clean and clear. I always drink from fast moving water, never from puddles. I also use a camelback to carry my water, so water is filtered directly into the bladder. If...
