Looking damn fine.
I mean, ya I guess if this is never going to leave the US you can prob get away with 10MPG + 10-15 extra gallons so you have 300-350mi range is enough for basically anywhere in USA... but you kinda cant help putting stuff on the roof if its more than 1 person (friend or...
Just depends on the rig. I agree with no RTT or rack then it should be easy. But if you have stuff on the roof thats when you really start run into issues. TBH I see a lot of people not even able to maintain 16mpg stock which is bizarre but theres quite a few of them out there
I think in reality I should be shopping for a 460. Im going to go drive on IRL and see if I like it. I think that 1-2mpg that the460 will see over a 470 might be the deal breaker tbh. 11mpg vs 13 or 12 vs 14 is pretty big.
Ah I see. I dont like the460s as much for some reason. Not the outside or inside. I do like the MPG gain it made me consider it. But for 10k, I can beef up the 470 if that really became an issue for me, the payload. I just dont wanna be one of these guys sticking 40k into a car worth 13k KBB...
Im not that surprised that most people are recommending a truck. I think a small truck that can be lifted and do some tough trails is the ideal setup. Even a gladiator minus the wheelbase. I was trying to keep it in one car and i just am not a truck guy. If I have 2 cars then sure, I would...
Just depends on the build out. If someone has no rack, no RTT, no fridge, just a 2" lift and 33" E rated tires and some weekend gear in the back, I doubt doubt at all that one can maintain 14+MPG on the highway all day long. But thats also giving up a ton of comfort and amenities for a trip up...
You have the right idea for sure. It was something I looked at early on. I actually think about going with it until I graduate from it and then go onto a real build for more capable stuff. I was def considering the TH. I guess I could consider that again and being okay with keeping it mostly...
So my overall budget I would like to be around 30k (cash) all in. Obviously if I go with something like a GX for 10-15k Im not going to just slam 20k into it on day 1. When I first started this research I had no idea how overpriced used Rubicons were. Its actually insane. Maybe its irrational...
For one I am in the market right now. I wouldnt want to wait, wait for all the kinks, no aftermarket parts at first, unknown reliability. I thought about it tho
Interesting about it being cold. I get it. I feel like im beating a dead horse and not really gonna find the answer im looking for. I wonder also if its people who are buying E tires and slightly thinner vs wider tires and not E rated with lower PSI. Wonder if specific armor has significantly...
@Scott Brady What are you expecting your MPG to be at the end of this build? I guess since you are using this build for US only you dont care since its hard to go more than 200 miles round trip away from a gas station in the US....
Also why did you say the GX has a 19 gal tank when it says 23 gal?
For sure about types of driving. But I would assume in these big MPG threads people are talking averages here. For example today, I went on instagram and comment/asked a bunch of fully built out GX rigs their MPG. So only cars with full armor, (possibly not underneath), rack, RTT, custom...
Can someone help me out to understand why when I am asking or searching through past threads about MPG on the GX470 platform, some people fully loaded with 1200+ and even above GWVR are getting better MPG than simply someone running larger tires with a 2-3" lift and no rack and no armor RTT or...
Thanks for an honest reply. I dont mind honesty at all so nobody should be scared to sugarcoat.
I understand 2/3 are inherently opposite goals but there realistically should be a sweet spot no? Not the best ride and not capable to do a serious rubicon type trail, but still capable and still...
Is an LR3 out of the question? Youtube happened to bring me to some videos of LR3s and LR4s while I was AFK. They are cheap, watched some videos of them in stock form and they are quite capable. Obviously less reliable. Obviously more expensive to maintain. I would say it takes a huge hit on the...
Bronco will be too new and untested most likely for me. Ill let the kinks wear off on that one.
Any reason specifically 4runner when I mentioned GX? They are near identical but Lexus will have a smoother ride for the tarmac.
Thanks for the reply!
LC is going to basically be a larger GX with an axle (potentially) and lockers. And a larger payload. But itll also be 2x the cost with more wear and tear than a mall crawler GX.
Wouldnt I better off going with a GX still and putting lockers on it and larger brakes and go...
Hi guys. Newbie here. Ill try to give a lot of info and try to be concise to help you give me the best advice in the shortest amount of time. I read through some threads and saw people asking questions. Trying to give as much info without rambling.
A) For now I am excluding trucks. I want to DD...
