The Trooper has the 4l30E tranny. I personally have never had issue with the tranny itself but that is because previous owners had taken care of it. I looked for an auto because it offers the TOD option which I did like. You have to be very careful with the trannys and make sure they are in good...
I understand and I guess its time I realize I am making my life in Georgia, not Texas or Pennsylvania. I bought the Trooper in PA for snow because my previous car was a Prerunner Taco. I never planned on moving to Georgia, I told myself if it didnt work in PA I was going back home to Texas, but...
I tried to lean to a 90% DD / 10 % offroader. Thats why I optioned the Civic / Summit. My general reasoning behind wanting some offroad capabilities are; I plan to start fishing/ camping/ exploring now I have a partner who will enjoy it. You never know when you are going to need them, floods...
I never thought of that. I will look into it! Thanks.
On another note, I am expecting too much for my Trooper?

Yeah if I find one it will be a 4 door so no soft top and I def will get the bigger tires. I am thinking that the Sidekick is at the top of my search list. Second is still a Volvo Wagon and third is a pickup. I really appreciate your help Andy, friendly and helpful people are what draws me to a...
So realistically I could expect about the same! That is really encouraging to me. I am starting college and I will be driving 80 miles a day so my Trooper would need a tank a week for gas just for college(2 days a week). If I could manage to get a 25 average that would cut my costs in at least...
I am sure he is talking about stock suspension and thats what I am running!
Good news though, I have a G80 Rear in my Trooper, Just now went and looked and BAM lol
Thats VERY good, I am extremely please to hear those numbers. I think I could swing my lady into liking a Sidekick. How do you think the MPG would be affected if I were to get a 4 door model? Also I assume the 16v does better on gas then the 8v? Mine wouldn't have a bumper / winch right away and...
I would love to get an SX4 but with college and having to be responsible and what not, I don't want to get into payments again.
Zukrider suggested the Tracker/ Sidekick as a good option so I am looking into them right now. I have seen yours and I must say its pretty sweet. Do you happen to have...
Thanks Zuk, I had only read of the Honda on Wiki and internets and never actually seen one myself. Like you said I would LOVE to find a nice Toyota/ Mazda/ Ford/ Isuzu/ Mitsubishi 4x4 truck but it seems like everyone I find is WAY overpriced and over modified for what I need. I think a nice...
Previous owner, fuelly shows 32 mpg. I have never owned a 4cyl so I am going off of others input.
That Loyle looks pretty BA, that would be a cool option I am just worried about finding one!
Dango, whats your mileage you get from your volvos, I have seen plenty of people get good mileage out...
Well I generally am the fast guy on the highway so I travel around 80-85 when on long hauls so its even more of a death trap for me. I am not a fan of Airbags, my last wreck I ran my taco into a dirt mount at like 60 mph and it went end over end and the damn bags didnt deploy. I wear my seatbelt...
Due to living conditions I can only have one vehicle, if I had a good job like I had previously I would be in a little civic or escort for DD and build the trooper but I cant afford that while college is going on. Our offroading would be limited to dirt roads and fire roads.
So I the Subi is...
I have come to the point in my life where I need something that is cheap, VERY Efficient, moderately comfortable, easy to work on, and decent on offroad. (Basically I need a Suzuki SX4 but I dont want to spend 10k on a vehicle).
Back story, I drive a Trooper and I love it. I live now in...
Thats why I went with the Trooper soon as I sat in it. Im a big guy and I can sit in the rear seats even with the front all the way back. Plus I like alot of room in the storage area!
Nice Rig, The bumper is sweet but it just looks weird, I guess its because I haven't seen a ton of Chevys with that style of bumper. It might just be that color.
Nice rig though, good luck with your future plans.
+1 on the 16, I had some LTX M/S on my Trooper when I bought it and they seemed pretty nice, they did well on dirt and very well on road! The Geolanders are good options too!
Back when I rode in my buddys XJ I had a 89 Mazda 929, Extremely comfy car and we took his XJ down to Matagorda beach so it was about a 45 min drive there, I was completely miserable after 10 mins. I did like the I6 HO in the XJ though ;)
On the Taco / Truck topic, I had a 04 Tacoma and I would MUCH rather drive long distances in the Trooper instead of the Taco. Same note on a Cherokee, I have never rode in such a miserable vehicle before. I am 6'4 so I might have been big for those two. Bonus on the Trooper is throw some 285s...
