To Keep or Not to Keep

You might want to look at a first-gen Tundra. It's about the same size as the T100 chassis, which I think is a good compromise between mobility and cargo capacity.

T100 w/ 220K miles still an OK buy?

I paid $6,500 for one with close to 200K miles in California. It has a nearly-perfect body and interior, but no service records. I ended up doing basic maintenance and eventually spending about $2,000 to rebuild the engine. In short: they're excellent trucks that are greatly underrated. I...

    FlipPac Hinge Broke - Solutions?

The tolerances on waterjet are usually around +/- .005". You should be able to include the spline in the CAD drawing. If you requested it up front, you might be able to get more like .001 and not need the post-operation. Arclight

    PLB Monitoring

Question: What was the policy of USCG with regards to activations in the territorial waters of other nations? Was there normally follow-up to ensure your counterpart in a foreign country actually followed through with a reasonable response?

    My fullsize Flippac interior build

    Best Toyota for $15K

I would actually look at a first-gen Tundra. I went with a T100 (Which I wouldn't suggest in your case, as they are getting pretty old). But the GEN-1 Tundra isn't a lot bigger than some of the new Tacoma configurations and it's a very reliable vehicle. And it doesn't go for $15K with...

    PLB Monitoring

I would feel pretty comfortable trusting my life to a PLB anywhere in the United States. If you turn it on and leave it on, the signal will get received by both low-earth-orbiting and geosynchronous satellites several times. The only exceptions would be if you were underground, in a deep...

    Bed liner on plywood?

Herculiner is easy to apply to clean plywood. The main downside is that it's rough on your hands (upholster or carpet anything your body will rest on frequently) and dust sticks to it. On the plus side, things don't slide around one it and a coat or two will hide all of the flaws in your...

Flip-Pac Parts Suppliers List? Windows, Torsion Bars, etc.

I could easily have these made from stainless on a water jet. The problem is that it's not exactly a bolt-on install. Aren't those fiberglassed into the lid and body? Arclight

Nice work, and it sounds like your community supports you pretty well. We still struggle with fundraising.

    High Mileage Tacomas

If it helps, I was able to get my 5VZFE rebuilt, including a new crank (reconditioned one - mine was unusable) and a head for around $2,000 in Southern California about 2 years ago.

Tembo Tusk Scottle Recipes, Tips and Tricks

Pro-tip: A chainmail pot scrubber works great for cleaning the Skottle. It removes particles of food that are sticking up proud of the surface, while not grinding away at the seasoning the way a Scotchbrite pad will. Also, the Blue Ridge bag has plenty of room for: -Propane tank -Fine-mesh 4"...

    Strategies for weight management

This is all theoretical until you weigh the truck. First step: Load it up, take it down to a public scale, give them $2.50 and get a slip of paper that shows exactly where you're at. Scales are usually located at truck stops, steel yards, landfills, etc. Once you have that number, see how...

7 weeks of searching paid off this weekend

If anyone is interested, the trial for the man charged with killing the woman we recovered from the mine shaft is going on right now. He admitted to the crime in court last week. I know this is not the "happy light side" of SAR, but sometimes we gotta do this sort of thing...

    FLIPPACK CAMPERS

You can definitely install it on the truck. The easiest way is to park it under a second-story window or a tall tree. Get someone to help you muscle it up to vertical (that's where the tension is fully off the bar) and secure it there. Change torsion bar and enjoy. Arclight

    SAR Work with a Felony

In our county, you could not be on a SAR team with a felony conviction. Like the other posters said, spend $200 for a consultation with a lawyer and go over your options. Don't bother applying until you have this squared away.

    FLIPPACK CAMPERS

I feel the same way. If my truck got wrecked, I would immediately start looking for another vehicle to remount the Flippac on. It's the perfect balance of mobility and being able to sleep a small family. Arclight

    Supercharged 5VZFE and cooling

This is a reasonable theory. I'll see about installing a temperature measurement device on the pressure line from the transmission.

    Supercharged 5VZFE and cooling

I have a Scangauge II installed and the X-Code for "AF1" on the Toyota. It appears to be a reading from 0-99, that starts out high on a cold start. Can someone give me an idea of how to interpret the air/fuel number? Arclight
