You are correct. The C channel is welded all the way around and I used it to correct minor out of square of the trailer. Matched it to the lid for a good fit.
Yes propane tanks on both sides. They are both 5 lb bottles.
I would redo the gas rotopaxes and move them forward to allow larger...
Josh:
I may be a little biased but the Sierra 4x4 lid and trailer and "official" harbor freight tool box setup looks great.
Of course it is hard to improve on perfection!!!
Now you just need my "match my Jeep" bicycle carrier bumper!!!
Thought I would join in on this. Adapters are always kinda tough for these axles due to the big hub but I do know that USWheelAdapters.com in Aurora, Co has done them before. They will just need dimensions. Since I run a CJ I did not need the adapters but I did need the SOA to get my 33's...
The M416 is usually 5 x 5.5 and stock CJ rims and tires fit (not sure what the backspace is on these). To go to much over 31" you have to start thinking SOA. You can buy spacer and the guys in Colorado at US Wheel Adapters can do it. The issue is the big center hole on the older M416 axles...
Do bears take showers, who knew!!!!
Seriously I have almost the exact setup but have yet to put it together as a unit so I too would love to see pictures of others setups. Trying to figure out a compact setup that is small for storage but easy to setup.
Let me see if I can explain it. It is simple once you try it. When the axle is sitting in the original position, the spring pad is on the bottom and the brake lever is on top and facing the front of the trailer. To do a springover just move the axle under the spring with hubs still on the...
Nice rig and great pictures. How many thumbs up did you get with the trailer on that trip. I hate to stop for gas as it is 20 minutes to get out. Everyone wants to look at the trailer and talk about the Jeep they used to own.
Did you get the brake issue fixed, Once you do a springover you have to rotate the brakes 180 to get the attach point back on top. Just pull the hubs, take off the 5 bolts holding it, rotate and rebolt.
As everyone says, the original wiring is 24v. Just change the bulbs, go to wiring box...
Sorry I am late on this thread. Darn work keeps getting in the way of my personal life!
Great trailer find. Overall it looks pretty straight and original. A great starting point for a build.
You are correct, the axle change is easy. It is hard to explain but if you look at my build thread...
I agree with Highlander! You are being very optimistic about a CJ. Once you drive it, the list will start all over again. Just remember my tagline about JEEPS
Are you using CJ rims? I am running 15" x 10" rims and 33" tires with no rubbing issues. Had to do a springover but that was it.
BTW nice trailer!! Let the building begin.
It is amazing how quickly that trailer fills ups. When I started I thought that I would have tons of room and now I am thinking of what I can take out to make sure everything fits!!!
Glad it is coming along.
Bearings should be easy to find local. Do you have the parts numbers for these?
Federal-Mogul:
Bearing: LM501349
Race: LM501310
Grease Seals (2 per trailer):
Federal-Mogul 472018
BTW it looks great!!!!!!! Now if only your back was good enough to load it/unload it and climb in the RTT (LOL)
Mark is an expert on these as he has 2, if I am correct and has done some great work on them. If you are planning on pulling with a smaller vehicle I would especially follow his thread on stripping weight off of these things as they can be heavy to tow.
Military trailers can be addictive!!
Should have painted the lid green and then it would match either vehicle!
How is the lift mechanism working? I am still trying to find a way to do it "with the touch of a button". So far no luck.
I did the same with my rear axle and went to a widetrack like you have. I had the old narrow axles. I swapped the front for a wide 30 with plans to go to a front 44 but never have done it.
Take it easy. As one who has a bad back and neck, I can tell you it is always something light that you...
