Thanks for that clarification. Going back to my original post, I really was just looking for a good propane grill (already have several small portable charcoal grills that I really like). Sounds like the Volcano 3 is. very versatile, but better as a wood/charcoal grill than propane. Thanks...
So the Volcano was sold out over the holidays, so I ended up getting a Napolean Travel Q 285 for Christmas. It really works extremely well and its so easy to use I'm even using it at home instead of firing up the Weber Performer charcoal grill (that I have used exclusively for over 20 years)...
Thats disappointing to hear. I think many of us have considered Rhino's products to be one of the higher quality options out there, but as often happens, popularity can lead to a rush to supply the demand, which then leads to quality problems. Perhaps that is the case here.
That’s a great idea. When I get back to my trailer this week I will set it up and take some pix for reference and do some thinking along those lines.

I’ll have to look into the viability of that approach. I think that there is so much direct overhang that I’d need a 90° bend (vertical) immediately after the lower insertion, then about 8-10” of rise, then a return 90° (horizontal). I doubt there’d be enough length at that point to actually...
Thats actually a really good point. It could certainly be the issue. That being said, I drove for 3+ hours without turning off the ignition and it was still calibrating when I pulled off the highway and onto the dirt road approaching my camp...
I thought about using brass or stainless grommets (I have a kit with punch/press for my boat) but I worry about the noise of the grommet sliding around on the spring pole in a slight breeze. Noise like that drives me nuts...
I may have bro do that. One of the questions is how to best reinforce the holes in the awning. I seem to recall seeing iron-on fabric reinforcements somewhere and wondering if they will stick...

That switch panel looks nice. I thought about running this off my SPOD knock-off but instead utilized the power coming from the 12v outlet using one of these that had been powering a CB (which I’ve since removed after going the ham route)

I've found the single biggest effect (other than supplemental heating) is the layer UNDER me. You can pile all the blankets in the world on top of you, but if you don't have a good insulation layer under you, it won't help. Another thing that has served me well in cold weather is sleeping in...
I'm sure this must be a common issue - how do people typically deal with the fact that in many scenarios (like mine) the 270º awning prevents me from being able to deploy spring poles on two of the three windows. Or if I want spring poles (such as in a winter camping scenario) I just have to...
Not sure if you're doing it in a Jeep, but I found that it fit very well on the metal bracket just behind the removable "knee panel" on the driver's side. I then installed the switch using the REDARC switch panel into the little "vent hole" that is unused (at least in the rubicon). It was a...
So for anyone following this, I'm working up a proof of concept with some scrap I have laying around from previous projects. The sliders will be 30mm aluminum bar stock, about 25 cm long (though my diagram is marked 29mm, that slot is actually more like 30.6mm in width). They will be fastened...
Ah good to know. Redarc publishes good material but no where do they mention that this calibration can take many hours over many days!
I was worried about my wiring being somehow off.
Thanks!

So I just finished my first trip with the trailer and the brake controller all hooked up. For those of you using the Redarc, is it normal for it to be in "calibration mode" for the entire duration of a three day trip that covered about 300 miles on the freeway and about 40 miles on one lane...
100% agree, and I find it surprising that such craptastic zippers are used on Rhino's batwing awning and extensions. If I do go the route of ripping and replacing these zippers, I will most likely use the best quality zippers I can lay my hands on. The challenge is finding a shop. Not sure I...
I haven't measured to verify, but I'm assuming the same thing about being able to use an M8 T-slot nut and machine screw. Power source is the existing lighting - my plan is to tap into the exterior lights that are switched (in fact I tracked down the manufacturer of the lights for Turtleback...
yea thats kinda the direction I'm headed. Unfortunately the only shop here in town that does large scale zipper repair (a luggage repair place) seems to have gone under... When the rainy season hits (if it does) I may have to just disassemble the awning and send it somewhere.
