A buddy of mine imported a set of windows direct from the manufacturer in China. Other than slight differences in the combination blind/bugscreen they look like the Tern Overland but at about 50% of the cost.
I'm still completing my build so no real performance report. They look great and...
makes a huge difference. I used to hit 95 db on hills and idled in the mid 70's. After a similar endeavour I now see high 70's on the hills, highway cruise in the mid 60's and idle at 55-60 dB.
Interesting project, you might find some useful comparisons to converted ambulances. My converted ambo is an E350 on the 138" wheelbase with a 12 ft box. With a crosswise high mount bed in the back it's roomy enough for two that I wish I'd trimmed a couple feet off the back while I did the...
Time for a quick update: Finally got my windows installed. With them and the electrical done it's time to start putting it all back together.
Installing the windows was trickier than I expected. Unfortunately the windows mistakenly shipped with the narrow adapter ring that wasn't big enough to...
OMG... talk about a poltergeist level scene when you opened that fridge.
PS Have friends in the caving community so was watching the Turkey rescue. Grateful it worked out.
I recently had a brand new turbo installed on my 2009 6.0 Powerstroke and... it still kinda ran like crap. Color me disappointed!!
No more engine codes, the VGT readings on the turbo were normal, no chuffing sounds from the stuck turbo vanes but it just didn't run as good as I expected, seemed...
I'd missed that you're local to me. Would be fun to do a comparison between my ambulance conversion and your custom rig once I've got the 4x4 conversion done.
Have you gotten an empty weight on it?
I'm partway through redoing my build and got on a scale after removing most of the interior...
You've probably sorted out the gearing already, but in case you haven't. Our rigs are probably similar in weight and wind resistance. I went to a 235/85R16 tire which is a hair less than 32 inches with the stock 4.10 gears and it's a touch too tall. It does cruise nice and is a bit quieter...
Dude, so bummed to read about your continued motor issues. I appreciate your ethics in regards to the gofundme. But maybe think of it from the perspective of your fans. We've all much enjoyed your posts and we'd hate to see this all come to and end. Just from an entertainment point of view...
Large amounts of progress in the last couple days. I have vanquished the octopus of the original ambulance wiring harness. (well, almost vanquished)
I've eliminated most of the wiring I don't need. Pulled it all from where it was routed through the floor into the electrical cabinet. Removed...
Maybe I'm missing something but the price of the adapters seems insane. For the Econoline version of the 6.0 with the bottom mount filter it seems like a simple adapter to a remote mounted filter shouldn't have to cost $1,000 or more.
If it was a GM it would be like $80...
Similar with the 6.0, the engine filter is super easy to change on the pickups and about 30 minutes of moving crap to access it in the vans. The only upside is that there is a large pre-filter so the smaller one on the engine doesn't get the full load of sediment and stuff.
A couple suggestions based on where I'm at with my own ambo build.
I've removed all connections from the starter batteries to the aux power.
My auxiliary / camper panel will be fully independent except for:
a) a DC to DC charger so I my auxiliary lithium battery bank can charge from the...
