getting there
3 engine gauges installed
just waiting for the digital clock and fuel gauge for the left hand tank
note the stretch in the material on the RHS
thats called charecter
the way my exhaust guy explained it, if you increase the diameter of the pipe after the exhaust brake you create an echo chamber
more noise no gain
i went 2 1/2 " all the way through
Tanks raised, new exhaust system on its time to build a dash pod
lets face it we all know trucks run better and go faster with a row of gauges
templates drawn
cardboard model made (to check the fit)
framework for the pod built
note the visible air gaps will be taken up by a thin sheet of foam...
when it stops raining ill get underneath for a pic of the new muffler tail; pipe set up
Short answer YES
increase in power may be perceived cause it sounds faster
but looking at the standard can it was like a maze god knows how the gas got out
the new one is like looking down the grand canyon...
OK so thanks boys
Ill tag myself with this pic (before you guys get the chance (Owen)) for not observing the bleeding obvious
so much for the KISS method of fault finding
I went straight for the possible faulty component
It is. Looked at the wiring diagram for the ECU to find some numpty put that switch on the exhaust brake indicator lamp circuit. 10 years ive owned that cab. Never used it never paid it attention. And there was me with the dash all over the place looking for dodgy switches and relays
so new exhaust on and i went with a small straight flow muffler to deaden the noise a tad
its a bit louder than standard and throaty on acceleration
now not sure if theres coincidence but after a week of use and our weekend of torrential rain i find the exhaust brake is activating at idle in...
Ive been talking to my exhaust guy about building a tailpipe out the RHS now ive got all that room after lifting and relocating the tanks.
the factory dump pipe tends to cover the inside of the RH rear wheel from time to time
which is fine until it becomes a front wheel
So hes telling me on a...
bling is everything so the standard 5 wheel rotation just doesnt cut it
so its diagonal swap across the body
RH rear to LH front etc
of course that means getting the ally polish and elbow grease out cause the insides of the rims get putrid with road muck
teach me for having shiny wheels
Snap
RH saddle tank lifted 3 " and moved forward 4"
now they are even again
next job new exhaust tail pipe between the tank and guard
stop that dump pipe throwing soot all over the inside of my blingy rims
Hey Owen
Not given up
but not really trying
as you know its a hard marketplace selling this type of vehicle
i figure its worth 2/3 of what insurance would pay out
so where do you put its value
But I own it, Ive had it since new, its regularly serviced and its reliable
not sure i could say that...
I wish
no we are firmly planted in perth so we can be close to the grandkids we never see
I look out my front window every day and see it sitting there so i said stuff it im going to clean it up
Face lift project part one
get those bloody fuel tanks up off the ground
LHS saddle tank lifted 3" moved forward 4"
so now the lowest part is the transfer case
nothing I can do about that
RH tank is next
Then im thinking parabolics
been meaning to do the suspension since 2009
but ATW didnt...
Mines about to go in for a check up
pulls to the left like buggery under severe braking
its a shoe issue
Its alot like the wife. its not happy unless it has new shoes :wings:
got a feeling the last clown to adjust it didnt comprehend twin cylinder adjustment and pulled it up on one slave...
cheers justin
im in no hurry, i actually love these little trucks but as this one was built to travel and now we are stuck in perth (grand kids) it just sits there
as far as buyers go its a limited market place
once you get set up give me a yell we can get together over a beer and talk canters...
Justin
so when are you looking at buying
my 649 doesnt get used for its build purpose anymore
in fact it hardly gets used at all
and im tossing up what to do with it
its a well kitted base rig
but no motorhome style body on the back
even so if youve got he time could be a good project
I believe this is still the case Owen after firefighters in Vic lost there lives when the locking melted and they couldnt escape
as far as air bags i think the best safety measure is size. car drivers dont come anywhere near you
especially when the wife is driving
