The heat is starting to take it's toll. It hasn't been below 105* in over a week. It has been pushing 110* quite a lot which limits our time on the Revcon.
The more we work on it the more of a puzzle it is. Can't reinstall the windows without interior walls. Can't install interior walls...
It has been a hot minute (literally) since I've updated. Summer is in full blast here in southern AZ, so we're only fitting a few hours of work in the evenings. Usually, it is at sunset or early morning.
But we've been plodding along with the rear of the Revcon. We concentrated on the...
Hahahaha! This isn’t our first foray into restoration. He built a 1970 Chevelle and we were working on my 1961 F100 before this came into our lives. It’s kinda our thing. ?
I'd love to say that the cap is completed. But it is not. Yet.
Body work is hell. Sand down old, textured paint. Remove loads of sealer and adhesive. Primer. Sand again. Epoxy paint. Sand again. Paint.
But it has color. We stayed tan, just went a different shade. It is actually...
Sometimes no matter how fast you run, you still feel like you're standing still. We're in that place with progress. We're constantly working, but it is hard to see the fruit of our labors right now.
We're prepping really hard for paint. And it is tedious work.
If you need me, I'll be on...
About 8 gallons in a 30ft RV. We didn't necessarily do the "recommended coating" because of cost. Recommended by Lizard Skin was 20 gallons. We went heavy coating on the roof, and faded down to the floor. The non-awning side did get a heavier coat than the awning side. We definitely think...
How is it Friday already? Part of me is pleased with all we accomplished this week, and part of me wonders what we actually did.
Wednesday (I think) I sanded the excess fiberglass insulation off of the panels.
Mike wanted to spray Lizard Skin on the walls before we insulated. It is...
Oh we are. We sprayed with Lizard Skin and are following up with foam board insulation panels for maximum R value.
The front overhang and rear cap are made of fiberglass. The remainder of the trailer is made of aluminum. A very mixed media RV.
We took the week off work to get as much done before the heat arrives. During demo we decided to eliminate a lot of things that originally came on it, including lights, the refrigerator vent, and the front window. Patch, patch, patch.
Original paint was revealed. Purple.....
The front...
Interior demo is finally done. It is oddly satisfying to have it completely empty.
The worst of the demo was the liquid nails they used to put the walls up. Needless to say we are not going to glue the walls up. They will be screwed into the studs just in case of a water or electricity...
We’re thinking of moving the water tanks underneath to allow more usable storage inside. Still gutting it and planning it out. We’re easily a month away from rebuilding.
Deconstruction: Part 1
On our drive down from Portland, we noticed the steering was pretty loose. Mike put new tie rod ends in this week, so hopefully that fixes the sketchy handling this big beast had.
This weekend we started deconstructing/demo. For the most part, it was already pulled...
Thank you everyone! We did a video walk through and YouTube finally uploaded it. We have a lot of preplanning to do so updates may be delayed but I’ll keep this thread going.
Day 3 continued: Bryce Canyon
Realizing that we were passing by Bryce Canyon prior to the snow melt, we knew we wanted to see the red towers covered in snow. We made it into the park as the sun was setting and were delighted to see how beautiful it was.
We closed yet another...
Day 2: Oregon to Idaho
On our way back to Discount Tire, we stopped by 4 Wheel Parts to get air fittings to resurrect our airbag system. Riding around without them was.....uncomfortable. They didn't have parts to sell, but graciously offered us a piece from a display for free. They saved the...
So in February, Expedition Portal posted an ad on their Instagram page for a pretty rad looking 6 wheeled off-road camper. We instantly fell for it. The ad forewarned us that it would be a total project, but we contacted the owner, put a downpayment on it and flew from AZ to OR at the end of...
We use a Foxwing awning. Fits perfectly under the opened hatch and not too cumbersome to move when needing to close the hatch. The Foxwing was a game changer for us. With the added option of tapered walls, we can insulate the outdoor space around the teardrop pretty well. Even during snow...
Rain rain go away
Anyone else have issues with water getting into your open hatch? We're desert dwellers so we choose to escape to monsoon ridden Colorado in July every summer. We've also been caught in a few snows too. Having to close the hatch during storms was getting tiresome. Thankfully...
