    Is a Rover for me?

Death of the Montero. It could have been repaired, but for the price of these things these days it hardly seemed worth it. My brother is putting the motor and locking rear axle to goo use in an earlier SWB Dodge Raider. After a ton of reading forums, browsing classifieds, and a bit of soul...

Worth the risk? Is there a risk?

Care to expand? I've read about a run of '03s that had faulty oil pumps, but never anything about the '04s? I'm in a similar boat and am deciding between a disco 1 or 2 (or a Montero w/factory rear locker).

    Montero Tach Sticking. Any ideas?

If you've got the cluster torn down that far, why not just put a J/Y tach into it? Other than that, I have no clue how to troubleshoot it on that level.

    New Defender Concept

As a new member to the world of Rovers I'm left wodering how the Defender was viewed when it was proposed as the replacement to the series trucks? I'm guessing conversations then were not all that different than the current conversation, albeit at a slower, non-internet pace.

And now for something different...VW Golf Syncro on Ebay

I wonder if all the good bits can be swapped to a Jetta wagon of the same vintage? Maybe add the turbo diesel to the mix? Years ago I had a pipe dream of putting the running gear and suspension of an old 4WD Dodge Colt Vista under a regular Colt/Champ/Mirage hatchback. The end result would...

    Is a Rover for me?

I had ruled out leaf spring rigs. All of the ones from my experiences (admittedly not Rovers) don't flex nearly as well as a comparable coil spring truck. Are Series Rovers the exception?

    Is a Rover for me?

Nope. I got about 14mpg before I ran it off an embankment, and as a part time pleasuremobile I don't need any better. I do place some emphasis on total range, but not really mileage - If that makes any sense. I was saying that the current price of gas has pushed the asking price of trucks (in...

    Is a Rover for me?

I guess my next question would be which Land Rovers to look at? I know about the major differences between Disco Is and IIs, but which Range Rovers are worth looking at? Which ones do I stay away from? Does the added rear overhang on a Disco II really something to worry about? Is a tranfercase...

    Is a Rover for me?

Coilers - interesting term. I like it. As far as wanting one...yes, I want one. I also want a Montero, and a Jeep, and a Defender, and a ______ . I am leaning towards trying the Rover, partly because I always wanted one. However, when dealing with a vehicle where one of the main goals is...

    Is a Rover for me?

Hello all. I've been reading this forum for a while, but rarely post. I just messed up the front of my Montero and am looking for a replacement. My uses are mostly taking my kids and scouts camping, exploring, off roading, and daily driving when the other car is down. I'm not into rock crawling...

Overland/Camping Vehicle for Family of 6

A budget wasn't specified, or how old of a vehicle. But a possible trailer was. If the budget is tight, one of the less expensive was of getting into a capable, reliable rig is a mid '90s Montero SR. Most seem to have the 3rd row and the SR models have a factory locker. Going price seems to be...

LWB vs SWB, Which Is Better?

What has been mentioned is about it then. SWB 4cyl has leafs. SWB V6 has coils. All the LWB have the coils and V6. All the V6 models have bigger diffs, front and rear, that have lockers available. To my knowledge, the small (4cyl) front diff does not have a locker option at this time. LWB has...

LWB vs SWB, Which Is Better?

I'll agree with the preference for a LWB. While bigger than a SWB- they are still far from a large rig. Cargo room does go pretty fast in a SWB. 2 person trips only. The LWB gives you room for extended trips with 2 or an extended weekend with the family.

    Non-Mitsubishi Montero?

If I was to ever do it, mine would be stock power levels. I was just pointing out where you could go, if one had the desire. The cost/performance ratio, especially the easy torque, is what I think makes that particular combo stand out. I suppose the GM Supercharged V6 (L67) from the Bonerville...

    Non-Mitsubishi Montero?

I always thought a good swap candidate for a Gen 1 would be a 3.8 Ford V6 from the TBird SuperCoupe and a F150/Bronco trans and transfer case. 210HP and 315ft/lbs before any tuning or tweaking (230/330 for the rarer '94/'95 models). The 3.8 shares a bellhousing with the 302/5.0/351W so...

    Two-Tone Paint Job???

Simple, basic, no-frills, utilitarian '80s Japanese styling. Same reason all the Camries and Accords from that time look the same. ;) Round headlights are cheap and available worldwide. Flat body panels are easy to repair.

    Oriflamme Canyon Anza Borrego 1-9-'08

Small world. I was just on Oriflame last Saturday after a Cub Scout camping trip to Agua Caliente. Another member had a trail guide that I was reading on down-time. When I saw the Oriflame sign on the way out, I couldn't resist. Great trail. After the rains we have had, everything was...
