Is the roof tent trend over?

I think this has been covered pretty well lots of folks bought them without much consideration during covid. Now they are not going out in the back country as much and dumping them. but I see them setup all the time in this part of country all year round @RAM5500 CAMPERTHING as to your list...

Planar Portable Heater Hose/Duct Storage while Traveling

No they are not particularly insulated, but our use is very different from the short runs that are the intended use. I use a short run of stiff aluminum dryer duct and that stuff is almost too hot to touch when the heater is running full bore (5.4hz). I have not found anything better at a...

    All in one diesel heaters

Just a note most of the all-in ones are not weather proof. I am just building a lightweight plywood (1/4 inch) case/weather cover for mine , as bonus it will make it easier to store in the back of my Discovery 2.

What's your favourite frying pan? Market Research

@Bbrreenntt I use 2 cast iron pans one has a removal handle, the other just a short handle. Both came from family and work well, the removable handle is great for storage, and the cast iron fantastic for cooking. As to buying anything else, unlikely most "modern" pan materials do not stand up...

    Fuel Economy for Overlanding

@Yarjammer lots places up here in BC where 10 gals could be required if your range is 250-300 miles. I drive a LR Discovery II and routinely carry 5 or 10 gals of spare, but I do tend to go way out in the middle of nowhere. The biggest issues are road closures either via gate, wash out or...

Total Electronic Failure - deemed "totaled" 2011 LR4

It would be odd that everything fried - however all it takes is one central component to fail an everything appears to be dead. I would wait on the diagnostics report then ask the LR dealer about the report.

Easter long weekend, with the local LR group we followed a random FSR at the south end of Harrison Lake in SW British Columbia. Looking south down the lake.

How did Voyagers/HBC Outfitters do it?

Modern wool blankets are lighter, I had an old 50's era HBC blanket it was considerably heavier than modern ones. Personal metabolism is part of it too. I layer and rarely feel cold in my RTT even at -12 to -15C with the wind blowing. If I get warm I just toss a blanket aside.

Drone Laws world map and travelling with drones

Note in Canada you will need to apply for a license to fly. Many Provincial parks as well as large cities are also no fly. Notably almost all of Vancouver - West and North of the Fraser river

Why so many negative YouTube videos about RTTs?

I think far too many people buy one with any thought, looks cool everyone has one so lets get one. I purchased a small folding Tepui for my Discovery and I find it easy enough to set up and take down. It lets me stop for the night where ever I am, as long as the Disco fits, and the overhead...

    2006 LR3 Head Gasket Issue

UV coolant dye and a pressure test - start simple. I had a coolant leak in my D2 that was the only way I found it. You could skip the pressure test and just drive and check every night. That stuff glows bright bright green under UV light. Example below

    Wildlife Photography

I finally got a decent photo of a grizzly about 15 - 20 meters from my Disco wandered past our campsite of 14 rovers, decent sized if a bit thin. Another club member felt he had to point out there was a bear, as I was not seeming to take adequate notice. I saw him just fine ,I just wanted a...

    Flat Tire External Sidewall Repair?

Reading through the notes, the 4x4 patch is quite a bit larger, while not ideal it could get you back to cell range or backtop. But it would really depend on the nature of the damage. And as noted it is going to be a long slow trip, where you have to actually pick good lines and take it easy...

    Forestry Roads & COMS

Just to give those who are not in this part of the world an idea of the size of some these trucks, my Discovery looks a bit tiny next to that. They go down that same tiny FSR as every one else.

    Forestry Roads & COMS

@billiebob I will acknowledge I do not know how exactly it all integrates as it is a typical bureaucratic mess. As it turns out we are both wrong or partly right: FSR's are Provincial and managed by the province with maintenance priority to remote communities Resource roads are industry...

    Forestry Roads & COMS

@Bill Ruttan they moved everything to RR 1, etc and some of the signs do not show the actual freq. I carry a list but there has been a lot of stupid all round as far a road use, signage and radio frequencies go. But when I transmit to on a coming logging truck that I am pulled over between...
