Touché !
But wouldn't a more accurate analogy be that you would wear your motorcycle gear all the time (not just riding) for fear of getting into some kind of accident?
You correctly point out that the world.....all of it really, can be a dangerous place. NO arguments from me on that. Bad...
If the world is so dangerous as you say (and I am not saying it isn't ) then why is this need to carry something that only Americans seem to feel? And that in America! In Other places this need doesn't seem to be felt....I base that on never having met anyone outside of the US who has ever...
No worries.....ain't as thin skinned as all that! Besides, I love it when folks can defend their point of view intelligently....kind of why I hang out on this forum and not some others.
Yea, we are waaaaaaay off topic here. This isn't about the right to keep and bear arms, or the right to carry. It's about carrying a firearm for the purpose of self defense while camping ( overlanding). I am a supporter of the 2nd amendment and the right of any responsible person to carry...
The "problem is" reference was to one of the previous posters disregarding my comments because I was foreign....so in effect it was a referral to their misassumption.
I am a bit peeved at your tone....seeming to assume the US is better off without my insignificant self.... Not sure what you...
I don't necessarily disagree. It is one thing to theorize and conjecture our way into resolution, but no two situations are the same. I think we can all agree the world seldom plays according to our plans and expectations.
I do wonder how many people who carry have such training as you...
Curious why you feel all rational debate is over.......
BTW..that being able to outdraw a thug who has a gun on you.....only works in Hollywood and gaming consoles.
I appreciate the rational discussions.....but this isn't necessarily about gun ownership (I already stated I am 100% for ownership)..it is about the need to be armed while camping (which for me means in the back country, away from most of the world). IMHO if you feel in danger and the need to...
Problem is....I am an American. Also, before moving over here, I was a active hunter and action handgun shooter. I am also very pro gun ownership.
I just don't think they are the answer to every ( or even most) confrontations. Years of traveling ( without a firearm) the world over has shown me...
What a typically American thing to discuss....
My 2 cents based on personal expiriance? The need to be armed all the time is a sign of insecurity. There is no real need. In fact, the presence of a firearm in any given situation will tend to escalate things and make matters worse.
I am sure...
What you are describing is basically what most of the "traction control" systems out there are doing anyway..... i.e. applying the brake to wheels without traction.
You get the same kind of issues when you can't get unleaded petrol....so really you are just changing problems.
I know a lot of folks knock the modern electronics on engines and vehicles, but my experience is that you only need to adjust your skill set and fix techniques to reliably travel...
Here is a write up ( in German) on the new UniMog 5030. I got to see one in the flesh at Abenteuer Allrad this year...impressive.
