I honestly just got found the list of questions and answers and read through them a few times them took the test. So I could recognize the answers.
BUUUT I highly recommend the no non sense study guide. http://www.kb6nu.com/tech-manual/
Its basicly every question and answer converted into a...
everyone will have their opinions and they should be well taken but I think for your first radio it needs to be a solid 2m/440.
I would look on QTH(http://swap.qth.com/) for a good used mobile. I love my yaesu ft7800/7900 but almost any of the big 3 brands will be a good choice.
yea solar really has not changed efficiency for the last 30 years, but the price to produce them has gone done dramatically.
Get over to solarblvd.com and just buy them, its never been a better time.
Yea My buddy uses it all the time since he is always traveling. Uses wifi when he can but the 2g is still a connection. I love all the things T-Mobile is doing to stir up the mobile market. Now it they could just get better coverage in the rural area's I would switch over.
For the Ham radio just get a half way antenna( no ground needed) or a mount that go onto the rear hatch? just dont use CB its horrible haha
"haha yea Half/Wave antenna :bike_rider: thanks mm58"
My uploads not working well and i'm always the one taking pics so i'm not in many :(
from the peak of Mt Russell-14,094ft
Mt Russell from the last 400ft of class 3 section on Mt whitney mountaineers route.
Im kinda of a die hard cabela brand (I cant afford the rest :D). Im cheap and they seem to always have good deals on cabela rod and reels. They always seem to suit my needs well.
Kind of depends what you plan to fish. My first was a 6 piece 4wt combo kit from cabela since i was going to be...
Any updates on that Solar setup? Idk if you know this or not but any shadows on a solar panel basically stop the panel from working.
Have you measured the amp output from this setup in good sun? are you using a charge controller?
Your right about them not fully being topped off with the alternator since most alternators only get 14.4ish and lead acid needs closer to 15v to get full
You Just need to have my setup and put solar panels on your roof and a morning star controller so the sun will top the excess power needed...
Yea its hard to say how that battery is doing. Let us know after a good charging what happens.
After looking into chargers and battery life Ive learned its really really hard to find a trully good battery charger that gets up to 15v. most will only get as high as low 14's and thats just not...
Ha thats a cool idea, you will have to do some tests to see how much the mirrors add. idk if it will amount to anything but who knows, I know mirror can add power but some times the extra heat offsets it. Good Luck!
Pick up a beofang ham radio from amazon. $30 shipped and I guarantee you can reach a repeater from anywhere near tahoe. high peaks all over. Even if you dont have you licence you can bring it with a list of local repeaters in case.
Good luck with plb.
Your in the area of the 147.435! if you dont mind trash talk and swear words, I enjoy the 435 crew. Many people dont like how they act but I think its funny. they are kinda world famous in the ham radio world.
i think for sure the offroaders are a big part of it plus the Chinese radios making...
yea that should work fine for 2m/440. ideally the ground place should be as wide as the antenna is high. So a little quater length antenna would be perfect. Like others has said just make sure its grounded good to the body. Its all about getting that ground back to the radio ground and get an...
Yea i would imagine the meter would be fine, but if you access the wire itself to check the meters accuracy also.
Yea my vote it morning star, I have the basic unit since I only have 60watts but it only handles 4.5amps.
If i was you I would just get this unit, it can handle 10amps which your...
Yea voltage is pressure. so if your batteries are 14.0v you need more than 14v to push more power into the batteries. Thats why the proper charge controller is so important since alot of them dont let the volts get high enough to fully charge most batteries.
Wow thats a long run to those...
