What is the mileage difference between the diesel and the V10? Especially with a full load of kids and gear? I 100% get that it might not pay off (the extra $7K), but if your mileage was 18 instead of 10 (not saying it would be by any stretch as I dont know Fords at all- heck I would suggest an...
Seabass I have read this thread over the past few days. I 100% get your decision to sell it and think you were wise to do so. Some times prices are just too good to pass up and when you see that, take advantage of it. Well done and I look forward to seeing what you do to/with the new rig!
WyoCherokee did the trucks have any difference in weight or gear? I've had exactly the opposite experience with them. Not saying you didnt, just wondering if weight could have explained some of the difference. But maybe some other difference explains it- footprint of your old tires vs footprint...
Theres a thread right now about Michelin LTX's that you might consider. I know for me they were great in the snow and moderate off road. I would look at then for your needs.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the feedback. I am not going to go overboard nor am I the type to out drive my lights, just too much risk in that for my liking. But I like the idea of them in fron of the grille so was curious. I appreciate all the comments! Seems like I was likely overthinking it...
Happy Joe the first set of these I bought were for a '96 GMC Jimmy I had. They did well in mud (not deep gumbo but sloppy mud on logging roads) but what really opened my eyes was one January pulling my trailer down through my yard in the winter. We had a good foot plus of snow on the ground and...
Gotcha for what you're working with. And while you may not have the typical receiver hitches at your disposal in Europe you could fabricate something very similar- one tube has a 2" square Outside Measurement while the "receiver" is a square tube with a 2" Inside Measurement. So the one tube...
So I am in the planning stage for my next vehicle and am going pickup- 3/4 to 1 ton SRW and will be a Chevy/GMC version. One thing I will be installing are some driving lights (prob Daylighters bc I like the throwback to the first pair I put on my pickup in 1981- nope....I'm not a millennial...
I have a dutch oven too but found I didn't use it much so now leave it home. I know some of the recipes I see for them look great but for me and my buddies it just seems we grille more than anything else. But cast iron of any type is great for sure.
Lots of good lists here. I'm with folks on heavy paper plates but I also have dedicated plates so depending on how many ppl (and what ages) we may use the metal ones. Or may use paper. Paper always works well for bacon out of the pan and has been suggested makes good fire starter later...
I am with you about comfort food when out on the road. And I'm a fan of CBH (Plus can never eat it at home as my wife frowns on such behavior ha!). Plus I like that cans of CBH and Dinty Moore (also a staple in the chuck box) will keep forever.
No not as good as homemade ever but the...
I've wrestled with this subject and while I have not done anything I felt something could easily be done using the receiver hitch and an "adjustable foot".
The hitch receiver would provide stability side to side and the foot would take most of the weight. Something like this would allow you to...
Well done! As others have said great attention to detail. I think a lot of the camper shops save time and $ because they figure out all the ways to cut corners and then by doing it over and over again save time. But sadly the product gets "leaned down" to something that doesnt last long with all...
Cant beat building memories with your kids. Good for you. I love how the desert looks when everything blooms in spring. So much color amidst a drab (colorwise) landscape. Great job!
I like the idea of sturdy cases but for that price why not get a Pelican?
This one is significantly larger and is $250. I just use my Action Packers but have been wanting to upgrade to something that is waterproof. But I just keep the stuff I need kept dry in the vehicle. But I don't travel in...
