That is a very low volume price. Scaled to today's manufacturing capabilities and supplier base the price would drop in half.

".......But it wasn’t the heated leather seats, functional air conditioning (procured in Germany), thicker aluminum body panels (well beyond original specs), or blueprinted motors that impressed me about these two Arkonik Defender 110s I drove. I was amazed that after four hours on a reasonably...

It is informative that LR marketing has lost touch with it's roots but so has Toyota with advertisements of pulling couches through the desert. I doubt any of these marketing teams have camped or driven down a 4WD trail. The SUV vs pickup truck mindset.

    New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

In summary much of the discussion has been along the lines of the long understood difference between Land Rover and Range Rover. The Land Rover was always downmarket, for the masses, simpler and commercial. The Range Rover was always upmarket, much higher complexity and much higher price point...

There was a time when there was Land Rover for the masses ($30K) and Range Rover for the upmarket ($60K+). We've beat the Defender horse to death. The DI and DII were for both the commercial and personal market's. There was a time when a capability was introduced on the RR product line and years...

Sadly that is true for JLR. Their dealer network for the US is coastal/large urban areas. While they have expanded, it is always predicated on high income zip codes. JLR has zero presence in the upper midwest / nothern intermountain west. Years ago when I was looking for a RRC LWB the search...

Dumbest thread on EP? "New Defender Rage/Hate Thread" ?

I'm entertained that it became a 'global' thread that includes LR, Jeep and Toyota owners. Maybe it should be moved to Fireside?

Using your definition of global, you would immediately cease all development, testing and manufacturing of ICE engines. Or, you select product features ONLY offered for California and have products for the other 49 states. You are now no longer 'global' ? Or are you just making a business...

You have it backwards. A product is designed for the target market you intend to be successful in, nothing more. If it is 1 country, so be it. 128, so be it. More, depends on your goals, whether they are total sales or market penetration. Period. You can enter a market and withdraw from a...

2019 is not over but Discovery has been selling at roughly 6000-8000 per year in Europe while Wrangler is at 6000-7000 per year in Europe. Sales volumes are converging. Partly due to poor D5 acceptance while Jeep has been moving to push sales higher. As I pointed out there are many criteria on...

Looks like the Wrangler, Discovery and Land Cruiser volumes are converging in Europe ....... Jeep is growing sales worldwide. My point is not to promote Jeep but to highlight that there are many criteria that drives sales success. Those values are transferable globally.

    New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

You seem to think low cost, cheap as you refer to it, is a negative. LR is no longer a global vehicle. Why is that? Was it because they retreated upmarket? Is that "upmarket" mainly the older generation? Demographics can be your future if you let it.
