Over December, I got a chance to do some updates to the silver FJ62. The owner wanted "sliders" built, but admitted they would likely never be needed as rock protection. We compromised and built him something slim and good looking.
The main tube section is 2x.120" DOM, while the legs are...
Well, I jumped the gun a tad. The body for the Jeepster is still at the paint shop, but is supposed to be sprayed tomorrow. The interior, firewall and underside have been shot, and they look great. You'll notice that the color is almost identical to the original Jeepster blue metallic, but...
When I built my 1957 SI Rover in 2004, I saw no need for three seats up front, and I needed a spot to fit the twin stick shifters, so I mad this aluminum center console.
Ok guys. I am fully back on the Jeepster build. The owner has been more than patient, and I love him for that.
Small bit of progress is the wheels, which are custom 17x8 steelies, which I had powder coated in a creamy white. The tires may look small, but it's an illusion due to the wheel size...
I think it's time to start patching the holes in the floor. Ughhh.
I told myself in the beginning that I wasn't going to let the three holes in the floor bother me, and I would get to it when I have time, but having driven it in the wet made me change my mind. Water literally pools on the floor...
Still looking for front fenders and a grille emblem. I've given up on the tail lamps, in favor of something adequate and affordable.
I did take it to the snow yesterday. There wasn't a ton of snow, maybe a foot on the ground, but it did well enough. It's got one bald tire, one new tire and two...
It was the simplest solution that looked sort of factory. I could not find factory replacements anywhere.
Next is a fan shroud. It occurred to me the other day that the fan I am using is from a TBI 454 big block Chevy and is larger diameter than the stock fan, so a stock shroud won't work. I'll...
Update - more things keep popping up!
I am still amazed at how letting a vehicle sit is worse for it than actually driving it. The latest part failure was the harmonic balancer. When I had the motor apart, I blasted and inspected the original balancer before I painted it and it looked great...
If any of you noticed, the new door mirrors were installed too. I ended up purchasing the billet stanchions from BJ's and used 1980s Chevy truck mirrors, but cut the legs down about 3 inches. I also made wide backing plates that go inside the door, and make the mirrors very rigidly mounted.
I took some time to polish parts of the body during the summer. Scraping off hundreds of pine sap droplets made my fingernails fall out, but the results are surprising. I polished the roof rack and tightened up all the brackets, and installed new hardware too.
