the sides are 23" tall (outside dimensions)
I'm excited to see how it looks painted with the wood in as well, The stain colour came out damn close to what I envisioned so hopefully it looks great!
started working on the tongue more today, getting the pintle ring situation started.
I'll be welding flat steel to cover the cut area. I will also be adding some extra metal around it before, and after the pin, just to add some strenth there.
also grabbed some sheet for the lid. likely...
thanks!
more tongue work today. I also test sprayed a leftover piece of steel today to see how well the paint I have holds up. in theory, it should be good, and it would save me $$ from having to buy new stuff.
yep, it's a pretty shallow triangulation. but the strength is there, and...
haha yes, spacers were on the list from the start, as you can see above. just had to wait for them to show up.
I'll be leaving the tongue how it is for now, at least for a few test pulls and see how it feels. I actually took a measurement, and the total trailer length including tongue is...
few more things showed up today. including wheel spacers and lights! tossed the spacers on so there's now no more rubbing!
also got the wood stained today, mostly. still have to do the other side but I'm really happy with the colour it turned out
before and after spacers
yes, I know...
alrighty, main part of the tongue is on. still have to do the angle pieces coming off it. but we're getting there!
also sanded down all the wood today, likely stain tomorrow if the weather is nice enough.
*im probably going to make the tongue slightly shorter*
more progress. Got all the holes drilled for the bolts. that was.... fun. 70 holes through 3/16" material. thats around 13" of material if my math is right.
wood is now back off the trailer, marked for positions, and in the shed drying out. tomorrow I will be sanding it very lightly in prep...
Alrighty, a bit of a decent update today! Wood was picked up this morning, tongue steel was picked up this afternoon. only material items I still need to get are fenders. which I may have an idea for.
onto the update. The wood! Managed to pick it up this morning, preordered on Tuesday night...
my current "4x6" build is 23" tall, outside dimensions. It's actually 6' by 50", so inside dimension is 5' 10" x 4'. It's sitting spring over on 235/85r16 tires (31.7" tall) it's the perfect height where I can still reach over into it, without being too short for the gear I'll be carrying...
running the same size as your rig can be beneficial.
I run 35's on my truck but opted to run235/85r16 (31.7" tall) on the trailer. 35's on it were just overkill.
ordered tires today, picked em up, and mounted them!
I didn't want to wait till next week for my brother in law to mount them at his work (tire shop) so I went to town with a 12" mini crowbar and got the job done in the shed. then tossed them on! still need balancing, obviously, but I wanted to...
********, yeah nothing at all wrong with torsion axles. Anyone who says otherwise is on something, or had a defective part that should have been warrantied.

The problem with vehicle IRS in a trailer is that arm design is designed to push the tires outwards. Not a very good design for a trailer, especially if you are using the same heavy duty suspension from that vehicle, in a trailer.
Your ground clearance won't be that great compared to a solid...
could it work? Sure!
is it a good route to go? Not at all imo. WOuld be more expensive, complicated to fab and even maintain, and is arguably the worst designed independent suspension for a trailer. swing arms going sideways wont have the same benefits of trailing arm style, or torsion style.
