Hard shackles don't typically fail.....it's what they are attached to, then they turn into nice 2lb+ missiles.
Don't mistake being lucky for being good, there is no harm in taking a critical look at systems to see where they can be made safer IF something was to fail.
Some more full-float rear axle and 2024 info....

There is a lot to unpack in there....
For a general use kinetic recovery rope, I would recommend something from Yankum Rope. They have recently moved to bring even their rope manufacturing in house....the actual braiding of the base rope from raw fibers....not just the assembly of the rope (...
I'm not going to hold my breath for early 2024 in the Wrangler, but I REALLY hope the the 400hp SO version makes it in the JL/JT platform. It would fit perfectly between the 300hp 2.0Turbo and the 500hp 392 Hemi.
And it's called the Hurricane for histories sake!
Agree, I really like the OX locker design. I have been running one for about 10 years in the rear axle of my flatty. I did the air shift version with the shift cylinder built into the cover.
OX is now supporting many of the Dana/Spicer Advantek axles. They would be my first choice for a new...
The main issue I have dealt with on ARB lockers are the high speed rotary seals leaking. If you get them installed PERFECT they last a good long time....but if you don't....or if you have to pull the carrier to replace a ring and pinion at some point....they don't. The other issue is usually...
I hope we see the stronger 8hp70 automatic transmission trickle down into the more normal models like with the EcoDiesel. I think the Hurricane SO engine ( at about 400hp ) would force that if it was offered in the base trim models like the Sport. Fingers crossed.
I'm not saying the Jeep will get the Ram TRX axle. If I had to guess, I would say the rumored HD rear axle they are going to do will be the 'Dana 50' axle ( Advantek M235 ) that is being used in the back of the Bronco Raptor. I don't think they will do full float, but it would be nice if they...
They said a lot of the same things about the TJ Rubicon 'Fuji' low pressure air lockers too, and then moved on to the electromagnet 'Eaton' style design.
The JK/JL electric lockers have their quirks. The large electromagnet tends to pick up all the metal flake in the diff oil and concentrate...
It will be interesting to see if the new Spicer PerformaTrak locker will be making it into the Wrangler. They are already being used in the Ram TRX and Ford Bronco. They are an externally shifted locking collar ( similar to how an OX or TJM aftermarket unit works ), which I think would be an...
...and the 8hp70 automatic and stock Dana 44s the Hurricane would force them into needing would be icing on top. It could be similar to the Sport Ecodiesel where even the base model got all the heavy parts for less than a Rubicon or half the price as a 392!
No, not at all. There are some really interesting possibilities for the mid-run refresh. The new 3.0 Turbo 'Hurricane' SO engine might make it. There are also rumors of a new HD rear axle ( I suspect a variant of the M235 Advantek, and increased towing capacity.
Hello,
There is a 3/4" round bar built into the nose. That allows the safe connection of synthetic rigging and also allows a slot for a hard shackle to be used in either direction. You could add something like the Liftmate, but my chain nose was specifically designed to provide a similar...
It seems like we have more choices than ever for winch line ends in the recovery gear market. What are you running and how do you store whatever you are using?
I recently added a chain nose kit for the 2.25 version of the Tauler Jack.
This is to allow direct lifting of a wheel or a bumper/rocker with a sloped underside. Each leg is independently adjustable for length by each link in the chain. The hooks are a 'Datsun' mini-J-Hook from the two truck...
Hard or Soft shackle(s) that fit your recovery points, AND the winch remote if you have one, to be easily accessible by the driver/passenger without having to get out of their seatbelts.
It would only be about 10-20k+ per hour flight time for something that can lift heavy plus some ferry time to get it close....oh, and standby cost if you just want it to sit around and wait for you to get stuck.
