I've been thinking about a hard shell pop up too. I first saw a really neat A-frame trailer that got me thinking about the design. Then i saw a "turtle back" camper conversion for an early Ford econoline, that kind of cemented the idea.
I'm thinking of doing it to one of my Grand Cherokees...
Mos6502 is probably right on the money. Fortunately, even if it's an engine out repair, that's not too hard. But if it's your first time dealing with bugs, you'll do yourself a big favor by finding a local with experience to "walk you through" hands on.
For example...
There are a few different...
Thanks for the thread! I'd been thinking about one for awhile, and this thread was a perfect trigger. I got mine at the $289 price, and then requested a refund when they dropped it. They refunded the difference with no fuss.
I look forward to many trips of having it, but not needing it, in the...
You do know that supers have a strut style font end, right? A friend's brother Baja'd out a super, and it requires a bit more effort to maintain structural strength if you cut up the body for a kit.
I'm trying to talk myself out of doing a similar project with a '63 Econoline. My buddy got it as a basic cargo body shell, and now it has a late model straight 6 and an AOD in it.
I didn't like the performance of the Smittybuilt knock offs, so I use Staun. I've seen and used the ARB tool and like the speed of it. But i don't like the idea of constantly unthreading and threading in the cores. Sooner or later, I'm certain they'll strip or cross thread no matter how well...
If you can stomach the reliability issues.. The 2005 and up Grand Cherokees, with the quadra drive 2 option are extremely capable machines.
Diesel options available too.
I would think it should be too. But remember we're dealing with an aftermarket kit. Not an OEM design. So many year designated laws wouldn't apply because the vehicle is not "as originally equipped".
The bottom line though is always how badly a cop wants to write you a ticket. There are TONS of...
Won't argue any points made. The research I've done supports that as well.
For me, my swapping 'want' has more to do with me having several vehicles that can already fit an H8 with no alterations. In reality the dual battery part of my solar setup is little more than a trickle charger to keep a...
I'll be able to make a mount right up against the inner sheet metal, that will place the battery even with the top of the wheel tub. In that spot, the width of the H8 battery will not extend past the edge of the rear hatch. I'll see if I can post some pics of what my bare cargo area looks like...
I prefer the bug eye, or narrow eye, ones myself... But check your local laws. I haven't confirmed this, but my old boss at Bugformance said they're not legal in California. Headlights are too close.
For my project, the house battery will be inside the cargo area, at the right rear corner. I've removed all those plastic trim panels, and will be building a camper style interior.
Although.... The area right in front of the fuel tank, behind the trans crossmember, looks to be a nice spot if I...
The diesel version of your Grand uses an H8 AGM battery with 95AH rating. if you look at your plastic battery tray, there's a small tab/nub that aligns the smaller gasoline engine batteries. shave that down and you can put the bigger one in. That's what I've done with my own Hemi Grand
I've...
The one thing i don't like about the 67 is that they have a lot of unique parts. There's more than a few basic repair and body/trim parts that are 1967 only. Harder to find, and usually more costly at swap meets.
Quaife makes limited slip diffs for swings, IRS and bus transaxles. Probably about...
I'd keep the liner and work with it. If they really did use expanding foam all over the place for insulation, then practically every inch of that liner is 'bonded' in place. Trying to remove all, or even any significant sections, could prove to be a nightmare.
