@RickC...I was just looking into the Wilco System...because it attaches to the tie-down points, I don't know that it'll play nice with my decked drawers...and I'm really not willing to give those up. The ACS system is nice because (as Raul can attest to) it'll play nice with Decked Drawers...
I've looked into the contractor toppers as well, and they can get pretty pricey too, depending on how you outfit them. THe new ARE DCU MAX toppers offer a .065 skin, so they're a lot tougher than the industry standard .035. Again, depending on how you outfit them and what kind of rack you get...
@Grendel Kahn, That's a valid point, stripped down it would just look like a ladder rack. I would probably keep the gear pod(s) on it, because I think my recovery gear is going to live in there and I don't like NOT having that in the truck, but those lock anyway, so who cares? Even then, those...
@Rickck - If that topper was available for my truck , it'd be tempting despite the absurd price tag, but it's not available for my truck. So I either have to run a contractor topper (~$3500US with the accessories I want) or some sort of modified system like I have now (Vantech P3000 topper bars...
@LordThunderBum - That's kinda where I'm at too. If nothing Else, most toppers are ~200lbs...the ACS is ~70lbs. The leitner designs ACS is one of the more expensive systems on the market, but it's modularity really sells it to me.
I was pretty seriously considering the DCU Max, especially...
I talked to Leer and ARE (the only guys I can get in my area) and I asked them about their weight ratings and they ALWAYS gave me shifty answers. I talked to different people at their company and would get different answers. As soon as I mentioned running a rooftop tent, they would almost always...
Hey Guys,
Short version: Whose got a Leitner Designs ACS and what do you think of it? How do you use it and how is it holding up?
Long Version: I've got an '11 Ford F-150 Crew Cab Short bed that's been my all around adventure truck for the last few years, but the topper that it came with is...
Ultimately I want to set up a Ctek 20A Offroad kit back there, so yes, charging.
Why oh why won't someone come up with a clever dual battery tray for the F-150?
So, just to be clear, a standard flooded deep cycle SHOULD be vented if stored in a camper\topper truck bed, but an AGM deep cycle should be ok? Do I have this correct?
You're totally right, you DO need the smartpass system if you want to charge BOTH batteries.
There's NO room at all behind the rear seat.
I've thought about a frame mount system, but I would be worried about 1) breaking it and 2) drowning it. Can you completely submerge an AGM? I feel like...
Hey Everyone,
I have a 2011 Ford F-150 XLT Crew Cab truck and there is no good way to add a second, large, deep cycle battery under the hood. To get around this, in the next few months, I'm going to install a CTEK 20A offroad battery system in the bed of my truck to serve as a DC-DC charger and...
I know this is late in the game, but I was looking for some info in an old post and I found this again, so I figured I'd follow up.
I got in touch with Bobby over at CVT, and I guess there was a handful of Mt. Rainier tents that got shipped out from the group buy I got my tent from that had a...
That's a pretty awesome setup! I really like that @Meili! Any pictures of the internal bracing?
Edit: Also, how is your RTT Attached? I'll be running RTT on my truck too...
I looked at those guys...you're right, indestructible I'm sure, but holy cow are they expensive.
Right now, I'm looking into the ARE Diamond Plate edition. I really don't like the look of diamond plate, but it's .065 aluminum treadplate...the heaviest contractor topper I've seen is...
Hey Guys,
I ended up taking the plunge and getting a group 65 Exide AGM for my starting battery on my truck. I'll post here if I have any issues with it or how it works out.
Hey Everyone!
I suspect I've got a bad cell or some severe sulfation in the battery of my 2011 Ford F-150. In addition, I'm working on a DIY battery pack project. The local Theisens Farm Store carries Exide AGM's in group 65 (to fit my truck) and 24 (to fit my battery pack) and they're...
Hey, looking into these Ozark Trail Performance Coolers...anyone got any long-term thoughts after owning once of these for a while? How have they held up? Still happy with their performance? I've got a Indel B Fridge that I run in the truck and I'm looking to move "non-essentials" (beer and...
@Calicamper, it's an interesting conversation topic for sure! Intitively, something that has a welded aluminum frame with a protective skin over it seems like it would be more "structural" than fiberglass. I get that there's all sorts of reinforcement in the fiberglass that makes it stronger...
Only stupid if it doesn't work! A buddy I go on adventures with runs a setup like that...he's got bars on his topper and he built a roof rack out of 2x4's for the small odds and ends he needs to put up there.
I'm still leaning towards the aluminum topper, but I'm just curious what sort of...
