Yes, the sub has to come out completely. I thought about having a custom box built, but the sound is not as bad as I thought it would be without the sub. There is a guy on the AEV website who had a nice sub box built. I think his screen name is Helinomad or something like that.

I think top selection can be impacted by whether you intend to run the original suspension. A hard top and tow package when I bought my 2013 JKUR meant the heaviest duty springs that Jeep uses. If you are only running the J30 top and not heavy bumpers you would be fine with that suspension...

Check out Rexjc's or Yuman Desert Rat's setups. Both are well thought out builds. I ran a Garvin Wilderness rack on my TJ, but eventually got a JKU for extended camping outings (kept the TJ for day trips). Good luck with build.
