That's pretty sweet. And a dream to get back to racing a couple times a month. However, I checked (laid out bikes and measured), the height without a front wheel is still pretty tall - 31-36" vs ~40" without, because the seats become the tallest point.
We just did a quick trip up the hill...
Got eaten by work. Fixed photos and found some inspiration, then checked what it would be in CAD. However, mulling over it while working the day job, it really seems like keeping them inside (somehow) is going be ideal... so I'm going to try and look at that in CAD as well.
Yep, the dollars are crazy, and something bugs me about driving around something that you could stand up in the back - that either means you're driving a hugely tall vehicle, you have awful clearance, or both. Pop tops have always made more sense to me. One day I'm gonna ditch the day job and...
Yep, maybe 1% isn’t accurate, but my point was that it’s a daily driver, and we drive 100-300+ on a given weekend without getting on dirt, but once we get there, the last 5-50 miles are rough roads or 4x4 trails. If we didn’t have 4wd, we wouldn’t be able to get to the places we want to go...
Agree, do this all the time. I have a thrown together rack salvaged from Thule rack parts that holds bikes upright inside in case I take more than one. Plus no need for a lock. And in Colorado we can head to Moab for a fun weekend of bikes in January - April but drive through snow and rain for a...
Yep, after the last 2 week road trip/explosion of food/gear/bikes in the back (even without the dog) I was convinced we needed to have something similar to your setup. This discussion is definitely stirring up the pot. And the tundra is bigger, for sure... $1800 saved on a bumper would go a long...
Did you also have it lifted with the 5100s? Small lift without UCAs seems like a great price to performance ratio.
Sweet, thanks! Good to know about the FB page, I’ll look it up. I’ve seen lhanson’s page here on expedition portal, so I’ve seen the build... definitely good inspiration.
Nice! I...
Definitely will do on the sway bar and end links. I’m also trying to get some center console things too, so I need to find a good donor.
If a lift and a winch won’t be super helpful, I’d still be interested in a rear bumper to get a high clearance, swing away bike rack... just an expensive way...
Agree, I see low benefits relative to the cost of a front bumper and winch. However, the rear bumper with swing-away and high mounted bikes outside instead of inside basically increases our living/storage area by 30-40%. And yes, truck is caught up on fluids and maintained well besides the...
Occasionally lurker, totally uninformed off-roader, extra novice modder. Finally looking at spending some real money on a new-to-me '03 Tundra, Limited Access Cab 4x4 with 110k miles, and so, turning to the crowd here for advice.
What I want to use the truck for:
I'm a mountain biker primarily...
Okay - let me repeat it the way I understand - for overland vehicle use, the SI-ACR would work for simple things, like just getting a dual battery to run a fridge and some lights. However, if you add another way to charge, like solar or shore supply, OR if you are self-jumping/running extremely...
Working on a system for my truck (100A rated alternator), which I'll copy over to a few other vehicles - girlfriend's and friends' once it really works. I just read the Overland Journal review of the ML-ACR (500A, $260+hardware), seems like the choice for me. However, why not go to the SI-ACR...
Barring sway away coming out with hinges, does anyone else have a connection to get some of these made? Or pictures of an install? I'm sure one of us could take the photos and some of the parts to a shop that's willing to make a batch of these.
Can you link these quick disconnects? And include a description or something in case the link dies? I'm sure a ton of people would love to know about these!
Interested in the replacement parts, trying to restore a Flippac. If anyone has contact info for the people who bought the Flippac molds, I'm particularly interested and would really appreciate the info.
This doesn't seem like a huge "beware". It sounds like you were able to get the sway away torsion bar installed without a problem? Is that just a drill collar with a set screw to keep it from backing out? Where'd you get the collar?
T100 --> Tundra
Trading up from a T to a Tundra started last week. Nice upgrade - ABS, passenger airbag, stronger motor... and fits the flippac! Will definitely post pics as I get dual battery and some other things going. Dedicated mountain bike mobile.
Hey Jay, any photos or tips on how to do this? I saw Arclight had done it a different way, probably using the tubes. Is any of that stuff visible after tearing out the carpet?
Question about sleeping in these - it seems less stable than a Flippac - is it pretty noticeable if your partner is moving around? Either in terms of waking the other person up to pee in the night, or just changing while you cook on the tailgate?
